There no evidence on the contrary, neither... And there no evidence that us humans have a soul neither...

People have been saying that about every invention ever made... And now most human use them anyway... Until something even better replace it.

What isn't going to happen antime soon is something that record everything, everywhere on all angles. So basically, if your computer can select the sharp shots or even the one with the best composition, you'll still have to aim first. If your drone can focus automatically on a subject, set of subjects and take the interresting shots, you'll still have to ask the drone what to focus on and maybe also what kind of shots you want.

Today cameras all do automatic exposure and focus and this work quite well in many cases. As a consequence, most people don't use manual focus anymore nor do they use the f/16 rule or wander around with an external exposure meter. I don't think the quality of photos dropped or the willingness to take picture dropped neither too.

Looking at what pro got with their film bodies and expensive tele lenses a few dozen year ago, I can now get comparable quality in a used 300$ body + used 100$ consumer zoom. That's great. Not a threat.

Also even if the machine does everything by itself better than you for photos, the question is why do you have to focus on doing photography? Is it really the only thing worth doing in your life ?

Not really all camera and smartphone do exactly that. Because people do not accept to have to plug their camera permanently to a power source.

Nobody cares how fast it could run on the computer back home - this unit is getting the job done in the field, before they ever get home. Nobody is disputing that.

Actually result are a bit better with the newer camera alone. The result are much better when Tom, Dick or Harriett don't forget to use the proper lenses, optimize their setting for such scenes and also shoot in raw and use NR removal on their slow computer.

I belivied and tried because of all the people going with not so good KP jpeg and saying it was wonderfull. Because basically, I always use raw, good or bad habit and I knew I got better result with my older gear. I don't have Jpeg performance in mind but raw performance after noise removal. because this is how I work. Again good or bad.

I got the raw of K3-II & KP, I checked the Jpeg too and the performance is for me quite rougly as I said. KP is better at high iso, yes. Not by 2EV or more like some says, more like 1EV. Difficult to says exactly as it depend of the photo too.

Still this isn't the silver bullet one may think. A faster lens typically give 1,2 or even 4 EV depending from where you start. Good noise removal it seems 2EV.

Counting all that, I find the camera a bit on expensive side. I do think that if one is ready to spend that much, the price of an entry level FF body basically or previous Pentax flagship at introduction there shall be a bit more... Like flagship features, maybe other improvements like better AF.

I hope and think theses thing will come with the next iteration. The true replacement to the K3 familly whom basically KP is still part of.

And ? What problem do you have with that word propaganda ?

The results you get on DxO could be done on your GPU or CPU. Depend if you activate OpenCL or not. It is worth it if you have a fast GPU. The actual result shall be exactly the same anyway, only the speed would differ.

I don't know if lightroom or Capture One have GPU support but I wouldn't be surprised for it to be the case.

The image processing chip is still a turring machine, the same work can be done by any turring machine, that's computer science 101. I don't think the accelarator unit is a quantic computer or something like that. And between the Nvidia GPU or the accelerator unit as the one being faster to do the work, I bet on the Nvidia GPU.

For DxO prime, well you may not like it, that's your problem. Still the result look better than the Pentax jpeg that are more "smudgy and error prone" than prime is. You can also learn to use the right setting for your needs with the various options. Or another software NR tool. The basic one on DxO is alredy much better than the Jpeg outbut and the one bundled with lightroom is also quite well performing.

Propaganda:
Propaganda isn't about lying it is about being deliberate. Still from what rawr quoted, the KP certainly do not deliver high quality image accross the sensitivity range. There no camera that do that actually. This link was really propaganda. Not saying it is bad or uncommon, but all companies do that focussing only on the positive aspect, exagerating quite a bit and forgetting to speak of eventual limitations/weaknesses. For me this is propaganda.

There is difference in high iso coming from KP in the way that if you work with software with raw, you can certainly narrow the gap with K3-II but a difference remains, in particular at extremely high iso.

For me this come from the new CMOS sensor or better NR algorithm than available to me (like DxO prime or RawTherapee). In the end it doesn't really matter as to get that performance now you need a KP in APSC.

Doing a comparison from the RAW of dpreview + their jpeg I would say that very roughly:
- KP JPEG are better by rougly 1EV than K3 JPEG
- K3 RAW + DxO prime are better rougly by 1EV than KP JPEG
- KP RAW + DxO prime are better rougly by 1EV than K3 RAW + DxO prime.

Overall KP got 1EV better than K3. You can get it quick with shooting JPEG but then you'll not get really better than just applying DxO prime in batch on your old K3... Actually the results may be worse.

But if you go the full spectrum from K3 JPEG to KP RAW + prime you get 3EV. 2 EV from DxO prime, 1EV from the KP.

But using great NR algorithm to get better results isn't new, So the figure to retain is one more EV for KP than K3.

Maybe in help for many things but this accelarator unit is just specialized processing power. It is the software that run, the quality of the algorithms that define what is done and the same algorithms could be run on any processing unit with the same results. You could have the same code running on your computer. If done on a GPU, it might be even faster.

The part of their propaganda that speak of a new CMOS sensor is the part that supposedly can't be achieved by a K3 + appropriate software. The part with the accelarator unit can be done on any camera from the raw with the right software. The accelerator unit make it fast and low power enough to run on the camera but that's about it.

The camera may do all it want, including on raws, regardless of the settings you used in the menus. The K5 was adding blur, the K3 didn't or much less and so the K3 was seen are more noisy because basically you add to do it yourself.

I am sure the KP is better at high iso, but the question is how much once the software part is removed. It can't be 1.5EV or more otherwise it would match K1 performance and it doesn't. The raws on the link at high iso look very blury, but if there was no NR applied to it, they would not look like that. Softened and all.

Overall the work on the KP is really nice and ensure everybody benefit of it out of the box and maybe you can 1 more EV out of it, but I think it highly depend of the scene too.

I agree Pentax is lacking on AFC but the AF itself is very fast, quite accurate, work well in low light and with large appertures lenses. I guess results with this outdated AF and single point AF in AFC mode and back button AF work better than some want to admit. This is a similar mode to what many Nikon shooter use. It work perfectly on Pentax.

What our Pentax are not so good at is tracking/prediction of a moving subject accross AF points, but if you select the AF point yourself, it work nicely.

I see many people complaining that their A7RII or A6500 is unreliable in low light if they don't use a fast prime wide open and many of non top of the line mirrorless are simply much slower than Pentax for AF.

Pentax has to upgrade that AF and it is a bit overdue we all agree. That doesn't make the competition perfect and doesn't mean the AF is overall bad. Only some aspects, mostly subject tracking need improvement. On some aspects, the Pentax AF is actually better than many other cameras.

You also need to have decent lenses if you want the AF to work well and that was a problem with Pentax, some of their SDM designs are quite bad for AF.

Pentax innovate on AF with a new hardware sensor every few years and then refining the algorithm. The lastest iteration debuted with K3 and is really night and day vs the previous generation in K5/K5-II/KS1/KS2/K70.

It seems to be the right time for a new AF sensor. Key aspects would be covering a widder area in the frame, improving AF to get near 100% keeper rate in AFC tracking and maybe offering a few f/8 AF points to work nicely on slow lenses with TC. Something along a 7x7 cross AF points matrix and getting rid of the left and right vertical sensor would do the job for me and shall allow for both improved tracking and a more conveniant wider area.

Debuting this new sensor could also mean the entry level offer (maybe if they offer 1 day an entry level FF or for K70 replacement) that'll they be able to provide market segmentation by putting in there the already quite good current AF sensor.
