Well it's nice to know the consumer can buy a superior product for about the same price as a "lesser" one. Why do you suppose that is? Brand loyalty, marketing

Lately i've been entertaining the idea of swapping a modest Nikon collection for a Pentax SLR and lenses with the sole purpose of shooting through vintage Pentax glass. Most of my lenses are Tamron Adaptalls but i do have a few good Nikkor primes I can part with that would make the transition easier - on the pocket book anyway - but the reality is that i'm not able to justify spending a few thousand for the very best Pentax primes. Now i'm wondering if an SMC 50mm 1.7 is any better than a Nikkor 50mm 1.8?
How about the SMC 24mm f/2.8 versus the Nikkor 24mm AI version.
SMC 20mm f/2.8 vs a Nikkor 20mm with similar specs, 135mm f/3.5 etc.
I don't need to be blown away, but i also don't want to 1:1 crop everything in order to detect a slight difference in product.
