afaik lots of lenses have both, but if sdm is present on the camera, the lense will only use sdm(even in cases of failure) unless you hack the lens rom, which makes it act like it has screw drive only.

i had trouble on a k-5, but figured it out on a k10d... same camera that came with the broken sdm lens. i'm in the lehigh valley of pennsylvania if anyone need help.

thank you, this thread, for ever and ever! just bought a da* 16-50 on ebay... sdm was dead (not disclosed by seller!). fixed and converted to screw drive with an updated firmware k10d.
