Sigma 18-35.
A graveyard surrounding Hammarlands Kyrka (Hammarland's church) on Åland. Due to the decentering of the lens the field curvature became quite unusual. The objects on the left side, which are at "infinity" are in focus, while those at the same distance on the right are out of focus. The right most cross is in focus, while the left most cross is not.

- Sigma 28mm F1.8 Aspherical High Speed Wide Angle. Notice the flare in the centre. The sun was somewhere above the top right corner.

Two shots from the concert that I have recently visited in Helsinki. Sigma 28mm F1.8 (Aspherical High Speed Ultra Wide). They show some interesting flare, which looks more like a reflection of a stage light. I shot some of concerts in that club with Sigma 18-35 and have never experienced anything like this. Check out the singer's face in the second shot.

Before.

After.

A case of extreme shadow recovery in DxO 10. I exposed this scene for the skies, because if I exposed for the lower part of the scene I would have ended with a completely blow out skies. I knew that I would be able to recover most of the shadows, so I made a shot with post processing in mind. The sun was quite high, approximately above the villa on the left slope making it a backlit scene. Sigma 18-35 fared quite well in this situation and K-3 raw files proved to contain lots of information, that could be recovered in post processing.

Some shots with Carl Zeiss Jena MC Sonnar Electric. 135 mm, F 3.5. The lens is fully manual, so I used live view with 10x magnification and focus peaking. The last two shots are done using a tripod. Processed in SilkyPix 6.

- My dog "bunny" and her toy "darth vader".
- Bunny on a pillow.

Shot with DA* 60-250.

@Doctor X , did you crop the shot with a frog, or you managed to get really close to it ?

Shot with Sigma 18-35 F1.8 Art. This is an attempt at macro shot. The spider was tiny and even at minimal focusing distance it looks damn small. Cropped to 1440 pixels high (my monitor's height).

The first image in the first post seems to have suffered from a motion blur or a missed focus. The rest of the images look good. What were your settings for the first set of images ? In my experience 16-50 is too soft wide open around 50 mm.

:D Despite the looks, the band was extremely energetic on stage and seemed to enjoy every single moment of the gig. Not many younger bands can match them.

British Heavy Metal band Raven performing live in Helsinki. Sigma 18-35 F1.8. Manual mode with ISO 6400 F1.8 and shutter speeds from 1/80 to 1/125. Processed in DxO using PRIME noise reduction engine. For the fun of it, I tried using tracking autofocus for this gig. To my surprise there were less out of focus shots than I would expect from camera / lens in that environment. I shot both CDAF and PDAF.

Great colours and composition. I checked the full size version on flickr and it says F11. Why did you decide to stop the lens down that much ? Besides the image looks surprisingly grainy for ISO 100.

Thank you for the kind words ! The puppy is two months old and is blazingly fast, frequently faster than the camera's autofocus :)

The other problem with that kind of "vacation" is that when ashore, you are always in a hurry and you have not time to explore the local experience. Besides, you are not really given the chance to do so. There is pre-defined set of actions for you to do and a pre-defined set of places for you to visit. In most cases it looks like a herd with a shepherd. The passenger capacity of this very ship is roughly 3600 persons, which makes it a small floating city.

Thanks ! Live view and electronic level were very useful when shooting this panorama hand-held.

---------- Post added 03-19-15 at 02:10 PM ----------

I was shooting from another pier / jetty. I found a spot there, which roughly coincided with the centre of the ship and made a couple of test shots. I figured out that shooting in landscape orientation would cause too much distortion during processing, so I switched to portrait orientation. Out of five shots the thrid one, i.e. the central one was meant to be roughly in line with the central section of the ship. Two previous shots and two next shots were done to ensure a more or less equal overlapping areas. With ships it is quite easy, because there are many details, that you can use as control points. Electronic level was very useful to avoid differences in tilt and rotation between the images. And I was actually standing tall :)

Thanks ! When the ship was launched the company explained the reasons for that livery colour. Composition was corrected by slightly cropping the original RAW file in post processing.

@ zzeitg , how good is Revuenon at wide apertures ? I mean sharpness, haloing, aberations, contrast.

60-250 at F4 and 1/500.
These shots were taken from the deck of a ferry boat which traffics between Helsinki and Tallinn. It was quite hard to shoot that day. It was a windy morning and the ship was moving at the speed of roughly 20 knots. To get a steady shooting position I had to half kneel and place the lens barrel on the railings, even then the gusts of wind tended to move the camera and lens. The other ship was moving at roughly the same speed. The second shot was considerably easier, because the wind was blowing from behind, so my body covered the camera. Zoom was very comfortable to use in that situation, because the distance between the ships was changing rapidly. By the looks on the faces of the passengers who dared to go to the open deck, I could clearly tell that they considered me crazy.

The initial idea was purely technical - to achieve certain bokeh characteristics. The resulting shot turned out to be quite artistic :)
