I still can't get over how amazing these images are. Very 3-dimensional.
I sounds like quite a process, Eric. Is there a way I can emulate your workflow using Lightroom?

What kind of post processing, if any, did you use. Very nice quality

It is nice to see how well the Gang-gang image held together after processing and cropping. It retained tons of detail which seems to be a hallmark of this lens, especially when in the hands of a skilled owner, like Noel.

Anyone having any complaints or problems with their 150 - 450? Mine is great, but I did notice the 4 screws holding the mointing foot to the lens became loosened. Something to watch for.
Otherwise I'm quite happy with this lens -- and may consider selling my DA*300 someday.

Has anyone done or found a head to head comparison between the da*300 vs the 150-450 @300 under the same conditions? I would love to know the results (I think).

1 color and 2 b&w of Canada and Snow Geese in Western WA with my new 150-450.
With this new lens, I wonder if my DA*300 will see future use?

Thoughtful post, Greyser. I will take some time to decide how much I like this lens. I have 30 days to return it, if needed.
I can only compare it to my da300 as that is the only modern pentax tele I have experience with. My two main criteria are handing and IQ. After a few hours in the field yesterday getting used to the size and controlls, I am pleased. My only quibble is the lens creep, which is resolved with a locking switch. I also found that I need to let my camera settle for a couple of seconds after framing and focusing when using it at 450mm. This may be more of a tripod thing. I also resorted to a cable release to further minimize vibrations.
For IQ assessment, I need to shoot a lot more to decide, but my shooting yesterday yielded a few nice images, indeed. But I also had many shots that I tossed, mostly due to poor technique on my part. I plan to shoot a lot this week and will have a better sense then, if I will keep this beast.

This lens arrived yesterday. I fine-tuned it to my K3ii with LensAlign and took it out for a test drive today.
Good light and a fairly sturdy tripod and gimbal were used for these images. All and all, I'm quite impressed. I'm not sure how the sharpness compares to my DA300, but I do know that I appreciated the flexibility of the zoom. This is especially useful for shooting wildlife where you can't always zoom with your feet.
I didn't have time to try the 1.4 tc. I just wanted to get a feel for how the lens behaved and test for basic sharpness and rendering.
I am quite pleased so far . . .

Really sharp images, Murra. It is nice to see the combination of the leas and 1.4tc perform so well. Nice job controlling vibration and image noise when shooting in the challenging conditions.

Thanks for the note. It seems like this lens is heavy enough that, when used on a tripod, a gimbal head may be warranted. I'm looking at this one as a mid-priced gimbal with fairly good reviews. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B016V1AVV4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 ---------- Post added 02-03-16 at 07:09 AM ---------- I too worry about the double support gimbal getting in the way of reaching the lens controls like buttons, zoom, and focus. I imagine that design is very stable though.

Hi all. My 150-450 is in the mail, thanks in large part to the outstanding images on this thread and also because I wanted better reach and more flexibility than my 300 can offer; . . . and I simply can't justify buying the 560.
So, I can't wait until UPS delivers my box from B&H.
Now my question -- What do you all use for lens support on the tripod; a ball head or gimbal? I am looking at low to mid-priced gimbals (Promaster, Movo, etc,) but wonder if it is overkill for this lens.
Please let me know what you would recommend. I bought a Feisol Tournament so I'm good on the sticks. Now I need to find the right head.
Thx
