Hey -- I'm new to the forum, just upgraded from a K10D to a K-3 this Christmas. The K10D was my first DSLR camera -- I knew absolutely nothing and learned on it. I know a little more than nothing now, though only a little.
I took a pancake lineup and the DA 50-200 on a RTW trip with me, all of which held up flawlessly in pretty extreme weather conditions and rough treatment. For walkaround travel photography, it was an awesome setup. I always struggled with fast movements and trying to get useable low-light photos, and metering was spotty at times, especially when trying to get outdoor portraits of my wife without everything looking washed out (though that was more due to the photographer and lack of external flash than it was the camera). She would patiently stand there for several minutes as I got out my filters and polarizer trying the capture scene behind her. I'd eventually figure it out, but it was often an adventure.
The K-3 has been a fantastic upgrade -- some things just work much easier; snapshots in low-light with the high ISO settings, auto-focus, metering is way more consistent. But I go back and look at my pics from the K10D, and love the way they look. When the lighting was good, I got some amazing photos, even as a hack with no idea what I was doing.
And of course, without that camera and the rave reviews it got, I'd probably never have gone to Pentax and would be another Canon/Nikon user with no idea about my amazing 43mm.
No going back now.
