That's why I bought 8 elements to compare.
I still have love-hate for supertak 50mm f1.4. Sometimes it's amazing, sometime a total disaster. I need a bunch of aged women :) to prove my point that supertak makes them looking younger. So far I impressed only one of my friends. And she is in love with her canon 50mm f1.2 lens. When she saw her portrait i snapped with supertak, no editing, she told that she looks like a teenager. That's the beauty of 50yo lens, baby.

Paul, I don't have any conclusions yet, I've had the lens for one day only. The biggest drawback of 8 elements is flares even with hood, even in side light indoors. I've tried longer hood, no difference, just added vignetting. However, this fact makes some interesting "filters" for "washed" pictures.
The bokeh is not smooth as 7 elements, but in some cases is more artistic, especially when separating close subjects from the background.
I can't recall the superior sharpness wide open over 7 elements, but I guess it may depend on lens copies. Seems like 8 elements is slightly sharper wide open.
My 7 elements seem darker in VF than 8 elements, maybe because I did not de-yellow it completely, it still has light yellowish cast.
All I can tell for now, that both versions are pretty similar, but yet different, more testing is needed.

I did a quick comparison for both versions of SuperTaks 50mm
Left- 8 elements
Right-7 elements.
Both at f1.4, the same settings, with hood. I've tried to keep the same distance and same angle. Handheld. No editing. Screenshots from LR library.
You can check the original sizes on flickr. |

I received SuperTak 50mm f1.4 8 elements today. I can't say it's sharper wide open than my copy of 7 elements. Maybe a little, I need more testing.
Even with hood I need to watch the light all the time, this lens is a pain, but creates "dreamy" images. I really like this lens from f2.8 to f4
The rest is in flickr album. |

Actually, that exoskeleton was pretty much alive. :) Looks like green tiny fly, but I could not identify it exactly. The spider is spiny orb-weaver, female. My favorite macro models. :)
Here is more from today with Macro Takumar, 1:1 magnification, cropped. I need either diffuser, or flash ring. I increased contrast and clarity because the lens was too close to the bounced from the wall flash light.

I tested SuperTak 50mm f1.4 on new K5iis. Yes, it's sharper, I practice LV focusing, and it gets better, but it's not what I wanted to say.
SuperTak looks dead gorgeous on K5iis! :)

What a cute model :)
My Takumar 200mm f5.6 preset today, with Canon. Glad I got it instead of K200D today to let old Pentax rest a bit :), it was pretty dark for old k200. Maybe one day I will be lucky to catch basilisk lizard surfing on lake. |

I've been watching one on ebay, but decided not to bid because I have pentax-M 100mm f4. Regretting now.
Sharp and creamy. Beautiful.

Thanks. Yep, minor CA is not a problem, but purple and green (or agua) fringing is a disaster. It ruined half of my shots, especially with white ibises and white heron today. The only way is turn it into b&w.

Tele Takumar 200mm f5.6 preset yesterday. My love is still strong :) The only concern is CA on bright direct evening light. |

Thanks, Mike. The sharpness of lens was decreased with 2x adapter. Yesterday I took the adapter off, much better, but far. Preset and live view is so convenient combination for night shots.

This thread is dangerous for Takumar addicts.:D So many great pictures.
My very short shooting with Tele-Takumar 200mm f/5.6 preset and Sun Auto Tele Up 2x. Rain cloud has been waiting when I set everything, and covered moon.

Interesting. I got an impression that 8 elements better than 7 from reviews. I do have hood for my Supertak, but use it very seldom.

You are absolutely right. I missed the best sun today, and going to try that place again tomorrow morning. Even with polarized filter it was too bright and too hot to spend more time working on best focusing. And the rose is too red, looks terrible without pp. I'm going to try CCD sensor camera tomorrow and compare how it will handle vivid red under very bright light.

Supertak 50mm f/1.4
Tried to get rid of yellow by some "aging". I'm hooked on this lens, but don't "feel" it yet. |

I tested Tele Takumar 200mm f/5.6 preset yesterday. Here are two samples: one with Canon SL1 on bright day f/8, one with Pentax K200D on cloudy evening f/5.6-8 (in between). The lens itself is just great, but K200D's ISO performance is an issue for dark lenses. Need another Pentax for Takumar lenses :D
Both pictures are cropped and pp-d. |

My copy is yellow. First I wanted to get rid of yellowing, but it gives such a nice skin tone! I will keep it "radioactive" :D
