I've got the FA-135mm and both K-3 and K-5. But that lens is so fast on both that I seriously can't trust my own judgement. I would need to measure it somehow. It feels like instant focus on both when street shooting.

Fine portrait.

Are we talking about the Super Takumar 135/2.5 (5:4 design), the SMC Takumar 135/2.5 model 1 (5:4 design), or the SMC Takumar 135/2.5 model 2 (6:6 design)?

Congratulations! Yes, Tom has always a small but well selected list of Pentax gear for sale. Never seen anything on his list that did not looked like it was in great shape.

Often, but that has mostly to do with shifting between DSLRs and film SLRs. On the DSLRs my thumb looks for the advance lever. And to my shame I sometimes looks for the display for a preview when I shoot with film...

I'm not usually so found of dog or cat photos...probably because I don't look at them with the same lover the owner do, a bit like when you have to make impressed sounds over peoples photos of their own kids...but this photo I like. Atmosphere, good light and composition, and at least an impression that a good bit of the dogs feelings in that moment were caught.

Many A*135 shots here lately. Think I need to dust it of and make some use of it again, if we just could get some spring here. Still winter in Stockholm.

I agree entirely!

Yorik, I don't think we have had any photo of the F version of the 135/2.8 on this thread. Please, some lens porn!

It looks a bit like some Chinon m42 lenses, the rubber grip etc. And Chinon often manufactured for others under many different names. But it is just a guess. I never seen this one before.

Thanks for the flower help!

Quelle est la dernière fleur bleue en français? Have it in my garden, but haven't even been able to find its name in English.

The problem is where to stop. Besides the Pentax 135mm's I have some other 10-12 135mm's. Therefore I was thinking to keep this strictly Takumar+Pentax. I also haven't decided exactly how to do, and how far to persuade the tests. Practical shooting, brick walls, lens tests charts... But if you want to extend it yourself by copying my tests and use the lenses we have in common as base for the comparison, just go ahead. Just keep in mind that we will have some variation between copies of the same lens.

Doesn't usually romantic scenes require some environment around the subject and at least half a body, not just a head.
Maybe you could shoot a person in some 4-6 shots and stitch them together...;)

Actually, this glow is just bad optics. A complete failure to achieve what it was meant to be, a cheap way to get some more macro ratio just from moving the front lens further forward.
A UV-filter with some vaseline on a 50mm lens would be more useful for soft portraits.

The problem is that the "glow" comes when you approach the "macro" end of the setting, and with a 135mm that mean a closely cropped portrait, not even a whole head.
I got mine for around 1$ 50c :)

SMC Pentax-FA 135mm f2.8 IF

Very sharp lens. But I find that I sometimes find the contrast too low. In this it behaves similar to my FA 35/2.0. Have only had it since yesterday, so it is too early for conclusions.

But now I finally have all 135mm lens solutions Pentax ever used, not in every cosmetical variation.
First the 5:4 enhanced Ernostar used for the first six Takumar 135/3.5 versions. I have two of them.
Then the ordinary 4:4 Ernostar used for the later Takumar 135/3.5, the first K 135/3.5, the Takumar bayonet's and the A 135/2.8. Some with and some without SMC. I have all except the last Takumar bayonet, the one with f2.8 instead of 2.5.
Then the faster tele-takumar by Yasuo Takahashi, also an enhanced Ernostar, that was used for the first m42 135mm with f2.5. I have the non-SMC version of this one.
Then the later fast 135/2.5 with 6:6 elements that came both as m42 and K, both with SMC. I have the K version.
Then the 5:5 lens solution used for the compact M135/3.5.
The 7:6 design used for the A*135/1.8.
And finally the 8:7 design used for the F and FA135/2.8.

Seven different lens designs from 1953 to 2000, with various coatings, and for the 4:4 Ernostar minor changes that changed speed and close focus distance over the years.
For the coming summer I plan a major shoot out between all these lenses.:D

The one in the UK? No, not that one. Its aperture opening was asymmetric. Not good for the bokeh. Could be serviced of course, but it would cost some more.
