The idea that the D-FA*85 bazooka is going to be somehow optically inferior to the FA*85 makes me giggle. I'm expecting optics that make people forget how to spell "Sigma ART" and run neck in neck with whoever else.
I'll still be kicking around with my DA 50 1.8 but I digress.

When the phrase "I suspect" shows up that often I think it's square in the land of guesses.
I'm really hopeful that this lens is as good as they seem to indicate it will be. Old machinery or not.

How many wild guesses do you need to pack into a statement before it's regarded with the same level of respect as "PENTAX IS DOOMED"? Do you have well sourced information on anything that you just suggested?

kenspo, I know lots of us (myself included) appreciate you being here on the forum. Keeping the excitement up. Clamoring for... huge lenses that are over corrected (I kid) that people want to use and make great photos.
You could be out there taking pictures of the moose and the punk rockers of Norway but you're here keeping things interesting and more fun. Don't let them get you down.

A K-3 replacement wouldn't be full frame. That would be a K-1 replacement. I think it's doubtful either way.

Go tell a mechanical engineer that you're taking his computer away and he can do finite element analysis on his own. See what his reaction is and how much longer you just made his work take.
Computers have accelerated so much of design and engineering tasks that I'm boardering on speechless.

bxf, the focal length is the same, but I doubt anything beyond the font used for the Pentax logo will be recycled from previous lenses.
I do agree that this and the other mentioned new primes seem to be arriving very slowly to the point that it may be concerning as to what Ricoh is really up to.

On the crop side of the equation, isn't this a pretty easy sell? For someone starting out right now and they can afford new gear, a K-70, the 55-300 PLM for telephoto duties, the 18-135 for general walk-around, the DA 50 1.8 for portraiture, what's left? An ultrawide? DA 15 or the 12-24 are both right there. Or shop the various 3rd party offerings. Or or or.
The lens situation isn't perfect on crop but it's not some abysmal situation and I would feel happy knowing I could suggest affordable weather resistance bodies that offer in-body anti-shake that works nicely, offering good high-ISO performance, with a lens selection like that.

I appreciate kenspo and Asahi Man both posting here. kenspo hasn't shared anything of real weight, on this particular subject, in quite a while. I don't want anyone to get in trouble with Ricoh for over-sharing.
The tone could probably be more positive. I look forward to more products that people really enjoy using and get good results with.

What's to talk about? The few guys that post here that have any information haven't shared anything in months. There's been nothing shared from Ricoh in just as long. I think there's a lot of folks feeling kind of fed up or frustrated with the lens situation in k-mount land between slow output from Papa Pentax and the 3rd party vendors slinking away from k-mount for the last few years.
I don't know why Sigma doesn't drop a thousand 85 Art's in k-mount as a staged 'accident' to see how much of this market they can steal ahead of the Pentax 85. Same with their 20 Art.

This thread is kind of all over the place. I personally don't think it should be taken too seriously since there's very little real information that the public is aware of at this point in time. k-mount land being what it is today, we have options for a good 85mm lens if one is required, but the situation could be much much better.

I really hope they don't make those lenses, at least not a FF-compatible 25mm f1.4. Let the FF folks carry around some Sigma-sized chunk of glass, that's probably a bit more appropriate, but let the mid-20's prime be an f2.4 or f2.8 and not large by huge. Something that won't dwarf a KP or K-01.

Yes, I tried to address that very thing with the tech tips aspect. I think that the channel content could be half photog at work, half tech & usability.

It would be kind of cool to have a Pentax Yt channel as long as there's new content there at least once a week. Could be a mix of short things, like tech tips, and then maybe longer shows. Like a "Pentax Monthly Artist in Residence" where we get to walk along someone who is good with the gear and showing how they use Pentax bits to get the shots they want. Like someone that excels at street shooting, give them a KP, DA 21, and maybe a flash. Send them around Aspen or Austin or Antwerp. K-1 and something, do landscapes and astro, etc. 5 K-70's given to teams of high school kids showing how the gear is easy to use.

Too bad about some of the lenses that went out of production when Hoya came in.
It does seem odd that they can't get a lens out every, say, six months at minimum. A D-FA*85 followed by something along the lines of the FA 20 would have made 2017 a nice year.

I could see the K-3-3 or whatever going for about 25% more, per street pricing, over the KP. I think the K-70 is the enthusiast camera and the KP is the head turner, geeky thing, like the K-01 or K-S2, etc. I wish Pentax could easily start producing a few of the FA lenses again, like the 20-35 for K-1 owners or FA 20 and *24's for everybody's benefit.

Norm: Interesting, good feedback/stories. I'm not that serious about doing the above. I imagine I could assemble a pretty competent kit for, say, $4k if I include my existing DA 15 and K-5 II. That's including a couple good flashes, a monopod, and a tripod.
I don't know that I'd really want to do the wedding thing though. And I can definitely understand someone only making his money from photography being very careful about the gear purchase process.
Honestly I'd like to get a bit more serious about the hobby and get more shooting gigs but I'm not putting much effort into that sort of thing right now. So shame on me.
