It would be interesting to know what the current stock of FA50 1.4`s is like any if they plan to produce more at some point.

Quick web searching shows very little on such a lens. There's a single website that shows a translation of a Ricoh patent application for a 60mm macro. It's a four year old article (for lack of a better term) and was somewhat confusing as it shows multiple lens configurations. I personally find it odd that engineering firepower would be focused on that sort of product given that the D-FA 50 and 100 Macros exist and seem to be quite good lenses. But maybe it's the right path.

Will wait and see.

lesmore49, we have no idea what they're planning, save for a couple very tight lipped folks that have no reason to share info at this time. I suggested a couple lenses to kenspo and he seemed amused and told me to keep waiting.

Normally I would suggest that the DA15 makes this irrelevant, but with Sigma and Tamron leaving the stage, there are folks that will want something else. Maybe a nice 10-20 f3.5-4.5? We should start arguing about that lens next!

And yes, this is very serious stuff, guessing at what they sell next. Very important work.

Can you imagine how popular kenspo would be if we didn't have a roadmap to consult? He'd never get any sleep!

Otherwise, yes, you're agreeing with many wise people in this thread such as myself.

My mentioning the FA31 has nothing to do with that lens in and of itself. I'm saying, the widest prime is a 31mm, and people are touting the K-1 as "a landscape camera". I actually think the FA31 is an awesome lens, from everything I've read, but I've not used one myself. In any case, producing a f1.something 35mm when the FA35 f2.0 is already here, plus the Sigma 35 Art, makes me wonder why Ricoh isn't targeting something in the 20's. Or teens.

I'd kind of like a two pronged attack at the issue; a rehash of the tried and true F 28 f2.8 optics in a restyled body + DC focusing and WR, and then do the same again with the FA 20 f2.8. But I don't see them doing it any time soon and I've given up on waiting.

What's convenient or comfortable about taking a bunch of pictures with garbage image quality because you hooked a camera as good and costly as the K-1 to a 28-300 super zoom?

The search function for the user reviews isn't turning up a single 28-300 sold by Pentax. If it wasn't popular during the film era, why would they do it now?

Whatever.

Can these focal lengths get any more standard? This is a sarcastic, rhetorical question on my part, and I mention that because I've been told that my humor is hard to read here.

I'm also noting that the widest prime they offer is still the FA 31. I do not understand this but I'm not smart enough to run a brand/company like Pentax so whatever.

Why would Ricoh direct the Pentax wizards into building a full frame compatible 28-300 when they have the 18-135 and 18-270 already on crop? Full frame isn't supposed to be the everyman's camera system in today's world... who is clamoring to clamp a 28-300 onto a K-1? "Yeah I spent about $1800 USD on this bad boy. You know what this need? A superzoom that provides nearly 11x zoom range while being low cost!"

28-200, maybe, but a 28-300 sounds like a great way to negate the reason for K-1 ownership. A K-70 and an 18-2xx makes so much more sense to me. And with the 28-105 already here, I just don't see the priority over other fish that could be fried.

My probably unpopular two cents.

I agree, it seems like the 150-450 was a perfect offering to k-mount land. A 500/4 sounds like something I'd take to photograph out in the bush for Nat. Geographic. And frankly, that market seems all stitched up with Canikon right now, and I think Ricoh is smart to try to hit them where they aren't. Pentax's AF-C AF isn't getting enough positive press and reviews to support going after that market right now anyway.

Agreed on film-era optical design being useful on today's digital bodies. I keep thinking that the FA20 and F28 with DC or PLM focusing and restyled externally to look like the DFA100 or HD DA15 (as examples) and called DFA's would be a great thing for k-mount land. Time will tell what they do.

You know, now that I think about it, if I wasn't happy about having a wide range of lenses to chose from with a Pentax, I don't know that my next step would be to go to Fuji's X-mount... But if the lenses you really want are there, by all means!

If 12mm of width on crop isn't wide enough, the only game in town worth mentioning is the Sigma 8-16, right? Or else go to a prime lens.

You have to "live in the now" with this kind of thing. Wishing and hoping that X lens is going to show up at some point in the future is a good way to be disappointed. I guess I make jokes about it but if this is keeping someone from getting the shots they want, they have to be rational about it.

Good luck with the Fuji.
