Actually no, POS systems don't (usually) work together. Most POS systems are organizationally "internal only" by design and generally are just a "front end" to an overall ordering system. Sometimes an organization will have two POS & ordering systems (for example when one company buys another). There are some that can and do tie-in to B2B, reporting, inventory management, and ERP/financial type of systems on the server side. Specifically what you are talking about is supply chain management and B2B software. The simplest and most common example is for organizations that supply others to include Fedex/UPS/freight weighbills and tracking info as a part of their ASN (advanced shipping notification) process. Pretty much everything happens inside of the SQL databases driving the overall software. Realistically, a B2B data interchange of a small XML file via AS2 managed file transfer would be all that's needed whenever a tracking number or shipment has been generated for knowledge of inventory ordered, en route, spoken for etc.
Usually the hardest part is getting the two companies to talk to one another. Sorry, I've just been there and done that. :)

The Amazon update is great to hear! I was just bordering on canceling my pre-order (March 4th) with them. I didn't realize until this morning and catching up on the forum posts here that the answers to the Amazon questions were posted by a non-Amazon rep/different seller. But I went online with chat again this morning (~9am Eastern) to try to get *SOME* kind of status. I basically got nowhere. I told the person they needed to escalate this to the corporate product manager since they haven't communicated anything to anyone and another seller ON AMAZON has 2 in stock. Meanwhile the first level people are contradicting* themselves left and right. Also that many people on several forums and websites were bordering on canceling their $2000 Amazon pre-orders due to other retailers not only having stock, but also communicating with people. I was told it would be escalated and I'd get a response. So far nothing.
I, like VoiceofReason, was hoping to go down to Cinci/Newport aquarium this weekend. Something tells me that probably won't happen now though. :(
*This same rep told me they were out of stock and wouldn't be "back in stock until June 28th." Then when I asked if they had even received them, I was told that they had never received or processed any from the manufacturer.

Supposedly the cameras were arriving today/tomorrow and going back out asap. I found this "update" by looking at the questions asked at the bottom of the product page. It was updated today, but no indication of the time.
On April 27th, the question was asked: When can you deliver it?
The response was:
We are hoping to have our first shipment in the next day or so and will be shipped in the order in which they are received D Williams Imaging SELLER answered on April 28, 2016 See this seller's offer | See all buying options Comments (2) | 1 of 1 found this helpful. Do you?

Did you receive these yet? It's been a "day or so" and I have one on back-order. Any sort of time frame for the arrival and delivery would be helpful. Dustin Williams said on May 2, 2016
yes they will be arriving today and tomorrow as soon as they are in we plan to send them right back out
