I have just returned to these forums after a few YEARS away. I can't believe this thread is still going!!!
I found some images I posted on pages 7, 8 and 14 of this thread - I'll have to dust off the old Takumars again some time when I get a chance!

Mike, thanks for this info - I hadn't heard about it. I googled a bit but am still confused... hence my many questions! :)
Why does this work? Is the purpose of the contacts documented somewhere? Is it only the k100d that has this issue? Will I lose infinity focus?
As I (perhaps unlike you) also use KA mount lenses, maybe it's easier for me to just use exposure compensation.

bruloup, those pumpkins are beautiful!
A quick few with my "new" 135/3.5. The k100d underexposes with this lens, so I added 1.5EV, which seems to be somewhere near right, sometimes.

I'm just a baby member of this club, but today I received my 2nd Takumar, a Super 135/3.5, in the mail! I am absolutely rapt at the condition. Original caps and case, and a filter not mentioned in the auction, which looks like it has always been attached, for just over US$30. It really does look like it was almost never used. :)
It's dark and late, and I'm tired, so here are just a couple of shots - I used my 55/1.8 and new 135 to take photos of each other.
It's a lot easier to take a hand held shot, inside my house, at night, of the 135, with the 55 attached to the camera, than the other way around!
BTW my 100d seems to underexpose by 1-1.5 stops in AV mode with the 135... but I need to test in real light.

This made me wonder what hyperfocal meant, so I went away and found out. Thanks for prodding me to go digging!
Sounds like a very useful approach for quick shooting. With a Takumar, I guess the exposure is pretty easy, as you just stop the lens down and let Av mode choose the shutter speed.

I have just won a Super Takumar 135/3.5 to join my S-M-C 55/1.8 (which I love)... will post some shots once it arrives. :)

So we get to see your truck reflected in that helmet Mike :) - is it the big one partially obscured by the goggles strap?

Nices ones Michael. Is the first one a rose hip? It looks like a strange kind of octopus!
Some more garden shots with the same lens, S-M-C 55/1.8. |

Beautiful images Zewrak. Someone in my household was watching Cars on DVD today - those last few shots reminded me of that!

Very true. I'm really enjoying my S-M-C 55/1.8, my only Takumar. One of those 105 thingys would certainly be nice as well.

Thanks. No, there are some buildings in Norwood that could almost be these, but this is the State Library on North Tce. Sounds like you know Adelaide...

I don't claim that this is great photography or anything, just something a bit different (for here) and I find it interesting.
I just picked up some cheap extension rings for my 55/1.8. Inspiration and/or subject material seemed to be lacking, so I had a go at a kind of shot I've seen on watch forums (yes, there are forums that don't involve cameras).
This is a 3 second exposure at f5.6 (I think), 800 ISO, with all 3 extension tubes. The super luminova was given a good charge with a torch. I was going to say that the balance wheel of my watch oscillates at 3.5Hz and therefore the second hand moves 7 times a second... but that doesn't seem to tie in with the second image, which is a 100% crop and shows 19 different positions for the second hand during those 3 seconds. I think the explanation is that there is a very faint image on either end of the 19, making 21 total, which works - 7 per second. I remember doing something similar but cruder with a P&S camera to confirm the 3.5Hz when the watch was new. (I used to be a slight watch geek... now I've moved on:o) |

Thanks Mechan1k. What do you grip the lens by? The obvious thing is to turn the focus ring all the way to the close focus end, and when it stops, put further pressure on the ring to tighten the lens. But I haven't done that as I am scared of damaging the focus mechanism. And there's not much else of the lens to grip. With a name like Mechan1k you should be able to help me! :-)
Yes, I think I got a good deal and am really enjoying this lens.

Hi all, I'm new to Takumars & screw mount, and pretty new to this site (apart from lurking).
I just bought a Takumar 55/1.8 in beautiful condition from someone on the Marketplace, and managed to find a genuine Pentax adaptor for my K100D in little old Adelaide, which surprised me.
I'm pretty happy with the lens and dare say it's not my last Takumar!
I have a question - how should I tighten the lens into the adaptor? There is not much of the lens body to grip, and I'm wary of using the focus ring in case it damages or misaligns something? The lens has started unscrewing itself a couple of times as it's nott that tight. Should the red index against which the f-stop is read be at the top of the camera?
Here are a few initial shots, provided I can get them to show up in my post. I know they don't compare to some of the amazing shots in this thread!
