@wkraus The lens is the 49mm one. I've never used the earlier version, is it a radically different lens (aside from the obvious dimensional differences)?

A 50mm Macro Takumar, coupled with a helicoid variable extension tube, can capture a nice image of slug. I've been meaning to get a picture of some nice looking tiny creature, but the slug was so slow it made it really easy. ---------- Post added 11-01-14 at 12:50 PM ---------- And someday I will figure out how to better export photos--these are much sharper in my photo library than they are here.

I got my first DSLR early in January and went about purchasing a few lenses for it. It took too much time watching and bidding, but I quickly built up a nice little collection of K mount lenses. I kept reading reviews and seeing pictures of the Takumars and was wondering about when to make a jump to m42 lenses. I bid on a few things on ebay that contained an assortment of lenses, before finding a super cheap Spotmatic with a Super Tak 55mm 1.8 in great condition. I got it and a cheap fotodiox adapter and was hooked. So now, I have two later versions of the Super Takumar 50mm 1.4, a 35mm 2 (the early version), two 135mm 3.5s, a 35mm 3.5, a 28mm 3.5, and a just arrived 50mm macro takumar. It has been a lovely little journey with these great lenses, though by buying old cameras I have wound up with some duplicates that I need to sell. I've enjoyed the Taks so much that I am thinking about skipping an autofocus lenses on my next trip. Next on the purchase list, if I can find them for a decent price, a Fish-Eye and a 200mm 3.5. I'd love the 85mm 1.8, but the price makes that a tougher decision.
