June 2014 I bought my wife a K-50 in "Storm Trooper" livery, which she loved, and is still working like a champ. Summer 2018 KEH landed a pile of K-50s from someone, and I bought a Blue/Brown copy with zero shutter-clicks as a backup for the missus. Aperture failed on that one at 1200 clicks, so I sent it off for repair at PC35 PhotoLab and it worked perfectly till about 4300 clicks, failing last spring.
I boxed it for a spell, then decided to take it over for my own use with manual aperture lenses. My latest acquisition is the FA 50 /1.7 from KEH: Attachment 600846
It will join my F 17-28 & FA 135 as a three-lens grab-and-go: Attachment 600853

Looks good at this end: Attachment 598535
Day-and-night clouds since delivery, abundant sunshine today, but poor seeing. Still, I had to set it up for a short session. Attachment 598536
The current solar cycle is worth Hydrogen-alpha viewing. Do so if you can.

Previously, I had always used front-mounted glass or film type white light solar filters on my telescopes, and have a half-dozen around here in different sizes to fit the various models, each providing a slightly different level of quality insofar as the detail revealed in the eyepiece.
Late yesterday afternoon my first Herschel wedge type filter was delivered, and I was able to use it for a bit before the Sun dropped below my horizon.
The difference in image quality between the two filter types was like night-and-day; the wedge much sharper. Glad I finally got one of these. Attachment 596624

Re-acquisition I guess. My wife came upon this while cleaning out the credenza today. I certainly can't remember when it was placed there, but the battery is still good and it contains a new roll of film. For some reason I'm excited to take it out and use it. Attachment 593946

Astronomics, which, I believe, is the largest astro-gear retailer in the U.S, has their proprietary "Astro-Tech" line of products for us, and I recently learned of the PF flat-field eyepieces, they offer.
Bought and tried one in 5.5mm length, which sports a 60° AFOV, 16mm eye-relief, and the flat field, all for just $55! The orthoscopics and original Ultimas I have in this length seem unusable, now.
If you have high-end oculars you don't need this, but it truly is an exceptional value. Other F/Ls available, some with 65° fields. Attachment 589303

Why I did not buy one of these before this focal length was discontinued some years ago is a mystery, since I did get all six of the other Type 6 Nagler eyepieces new.
Someone finally decided to part with one, lucky me.
Great for my astro hobby, my collection of this series now complete. Attachment 585981

Happy birthday.
Yamaha YZ250P2L. Quarter-liter displacement, the largest two-stroke engine they put in a dirt bike, anymore.

I had a boyhood interest in astronomy which disappeared when I became a teenager and started riding motorcycles and chasing girls. Thirty years later it was rekindled when I picked up a magazine in a bookstore I had never seen before: Sky & Telescope, December '97. It's been my second favorite hobby since then.
Good luck.

Adjusting the legs to level is what I wanted to avoid. We'll see how the leveling base works in practice.

What would be the preferred volume level for this sort of thing, then, full, half?

So, speakers must be "broken in" like an automobile engine? I'm not an audiophile, clearly, never heard of this.
