Ah, thanks for that. I thought I'd come across something like that somewhere, but couldn't remember a) what and b) where.

It's like the discussions over aperture selection with reversed stacked lenses: some advocate using the aperture of the reversed lens, others the primary lens on the camera. The choice for highest image quality is the former. The latter does offer aperture control from the camera, but using the diaphragm of the reversed lens gives you the best results. I haven't tested this out myself, but have seen this result published by people who have on photomacrogrphy.net.

Thank you, that's good to know. I've got another (non-Raynox) achromat on the way from Surplus Shed that I'll likely be stacking with my 250. I think it's close to the 250's focal length of 125mm, so it will be like having two of them. I don't recall the thread diameter of the new one, but I'll probaby be needing step up/down rings to stack them. Good to know the order won't matter.

The ladybug shot is great! X marks the spot. Great use for the F35-70, which I also have, but don't use much because I like the 16-85 so much. The large filter diameter of the latter makes it less convenient to use with the Raynox: in fact I don't think I've ever used that combination. I would think results would be good once you get past the focal lengths where vignetting would be a problem.

I'm discovering lens clubs I didn't know about all the time. Some I'd never looked for, before I had the lens in question (Hello 35 Limited!); some I looked for to help research purchases (Hello Raynox 250!!), others I've just missed, period. Maybe they multiply while nobody's looking...

But now that you've found it, as another recent joiner myself, I say welcome aboard!

My Tamron 72B arrived today, so I'll be testing it out soon, with and without the Raynox 250. I shall post results here and on other appropriate threads and clubs.

Cool! Nice composition. I like the distortion at the edge. I've thought about shooting exactly tahat when I've noticed the odd drop on my tablet. I'll have to give it a try myself.

Thanks! It was nice to get more out of the 52BB so easily. It's a nice addition to my Sigma 50 and 70 macros, giving me a lot of flexibility. IAnd, 've never encountered the dreaded purple in my shooting An autofocus version would help avoid one of the few things I don't like about my KP: focus peaking blinks out when the shutter release is on half press UNLESS you're using an AF lens, and the camera is set to AF. (My K-S2 doesn't do this, politely leaving peaking on throughout shutter release actuation, whichever lens I use , in whater mode it's in.) I use back button focus, so I can leave the focus on AF and just do my usual move the camera backwards and forwards. The AF/MF focus clutch sound like it could be a bit of a pain, though.

So far the rig is just vapourware, but I'll post results once I've got everything bought, assembled and shooting.

I've got the 52BB too, and the 250 works very well on it as well. I'm awaiting delivery on a Tamron 90mm f2.8 72B macro (Manual focus, Adaptall precursor of the X72X AF Tamrons), so I'm looking forward to trying the Raynox 250 on it.

I'm also slowly accumulating bits and pieces to replicate this set-up for W/A macro: Twitter At this point about the only thing I'm still missing is the wide angle M12 board lens to stick on the front.

Johan at Extreme Macro is a proponent of stacked Raynoxes: Cheap extreme macro magnification with achromat close up lenses

Great shots! What host lens did you have the 150 on? Whatever it is, it plays well with the additional optic in front. I've only got the 250 at the moment, but I'll probably add a 150 to my collection eventually, if a good deal comes up.

I shall. I still have to get the M12 fish-eye board lens to hang on the front. I've got a 6mm cine lens and a Q 03 3.2mm fisheye I can try, though they won't be quite as wide as 1.8 and 2.1mm lenses I've seen used in these rigs. I'm looking forward to playing!

Cross posted in the Macro by any means necessary club:

I just ordered this possible Raynox 250 substitue 125mm focal length achromat from Surplus Shed (in which I have no interest, in or benefit from). It's the same focal length and seems to be about the same size. The motivation behind getting this was seeing this wide angle macro rig by Nicky Bay which uses two Raynox 250s. I've already got one, but if I can get a reasonable substitute for a second at US$8 instead of US$70, why not? If it doesn't work, I'm not out that much; if it does, bonus!

CORRECTION: On looking more closely at Nicky Bay's gear list for his fish-eye macro rig, it would appear that he's using a Raynox 250 and a 150, rather than two 250s.

It's great value for money and works particularly well on macro lenses, giving them a nice bump in magnification, without the penalty in light that extension would levy.

(Cross posted from Macro by any means necessary club). A member on photomacrography.net posted about this item on sale at Surplus Shed: REDROCK MICRO 72MM 5X MACRO MTD ACHROMAT, 187MM FL. . Yet more information here. I decided to order one as it looks like a less expensive possible alternative to the Raynox macro adapters. At 187mm focal length, it falls between the Raynox 150 (208mm) and the Raynox 250 (125mm), so it should give an intermediate magnification, but a bit closer to the 150. I'm figuring on using it with my 55-300 as a handy macro add-on for when I don't want to carry an actual macro lens with me.

P.S. I have no connection with or interest in Surplus Shed.
