The reason we figured it out is that the park has some natural grass paths and she charges ahead there and balks and pulls on the other trails. The contrast is huge.

I have a small dog that refuses to walk on some paths without protests. I finally realized it’s the rocks. Some paths are covered in crushed rock and if the rock is a certain size she hates it.

Do you have a picture of the other box? The kit 18-135 I had was packaged in my camera body box and not separate at all. Ricoh changed packaging to silver and great boxes quite some time ago, but new old stock shouldn't be any worse than newer ones.

The 18-135 is quite a bit better than some would think. I always love seeing what people can make from it.

We have several here. One was in my neighborhood but the people who owned the house sold off the property and the new owner smashed it and took it down.

The size difference is dramatic when the requirement isn't for fast lenses. The slow zooms and day but not super fast prime offer very compact size.
However... Once the fast or long lenses are needed the sizes explode.
A small m43 with the modest 42.5 f/1.7 is tiny, but an f/1.2 or f/1 starts to bloat. I see the purpose of my m43 as different from my k-3. I built my m43 kit for versatile but compact vs all purpose for my Pentax. The size of an individual lens and body is smaller, but when you see the kits covering similar fields of view the difference is more apparent. I'll have to stage a bag to bag shot to show what I mean.
My typical outing with m43 is a body plus: 20mm f1.7, 12-32 f3.5-5.6, 60mm macro, 35-100 f4-5.6, the body cap fisheye (9mm f8) all in a very small Pentax bag.

When I shot film my walk around was only slightly wider, as I used the F 35-135. My "eye" was different then, I was less into wide angle shots.

The 28-200 even where it overlaps the 18-135 isn't nearly in the same league.

I suggest the spot fix as well. That usually saves files like yours - the uniformity of the background makes it easier to correct I think.

Salt water is terribly corrosive. Zooming can migrate see spray or spashed water inside. Fresh water might not be an issue. Check the lens contacts (maybe remove the mount to inspect inside. Be careful of the pins and springs.
Did the camera drop? Sudden fall and subsequent deceleration can break connections and small pc boards inside the lens.
So sorry this happened.

I'm going to be the contrarian. I love my 18-135. I do. But if you love your 16-85 and rarely use the 18-135 - sell it to someone who will use it. Don't make that poor lens be a shelf queen.
