To clarify they swapped the mount due to the K-1 compatibility (scratching the camera) but you had asked they leave it alone? I would push hard for them to not charge then if you specified do not alter and they did anyway.

As far as I know all of the 16 or 17 to 50 lenses are APSC.

Was you k5 or k3 experience bad? Or are you pointing out that you we're willing to take the risk on those but not this one?

That's true but what if the thing that changed is the same thing making it faster focusing even on legacy Pentax lenses by some reports? Perhaps the change is with the Pentax spec but not within the reverse engineered spec that Sigma uses.

The plot thickens.

So can anyone explain what the reason for reusing the same number is? Are there just not enough numbers for the number of lenses?

I think the only 8 255 lenses with problems have all been 70-200 f/2.8 models. The problem may be the two things taken together as the body knows the focal length of the lens and this ID. The other 70-200 f/2.8 identifies differently.

I'm confused by the response above. I never saw anyone insinuate legal misconduct by Sigma. If I missed that whoops!

Reverse engineering is typically permitted. And reversing a protocol without outright copying means that subtle miscues can occur that can cause strange behaviors, but most of the time things work.

Actually the point is correct. This is likely a problem with the version of code used by sigma - but it shouldn't lock up the k-1. The lock up points to an unhandled exception. The incompatibility is a Sigma problem that exposed a hole in the k-1 bios I suspect.

Also to be fair Ricoh has been clear that 3rd party lenses may or may not fully function.
