I reprocessed the RAW on these. Reduced the exposure a bit and brightened the eyes.

For the money I can't see it being beat in Pentax mount. Purple fringing is a problem in high contrast areas at f5.6, but is well controlled by f8. Sharpness is good- especially if your subject is closer. Its not excellent, but again you will have to double the money spent to get better. The autofocus is fast, and usable for birds in flight. Its built like a tank. Very sturdy lens. Its relatively small and light for a 400mm lens. With in body shake reduction you can handhold it down to 1/320ish of second.

Overall it is a great value. Certainly a lot better at 400 than the Pentax 55-300 is at 300.

I was in a parking lot when I saw this guy land in a tree. I grabbed the camera out of my car and went to work :cool:
