Well, they look like jets of flame entering a manifold of some sort - I'll guess the basic guess and say... gas/propane heater?

I didn't even know of such a thing. If this is the sort of thing you're referring to it looks I'm in 8a.
Wow I'm impressed! Did you just know it 'cause I post all these pictures from Cali all the time?:D (or say "Dude" in my posts some times?)
Again, I didn't know of this meaning either. It is impressive how good the english is on this board from people all over the world (better than mine I'm sure.)
I started puting that is my region on a US wildland firefighting board, where it would be readily understood, and I figured here it would just be an obscure reference which no one would get - little did I know there could be so many interpretations :p.
And now for something completely different... A picture from a takumar...

Ha! Surprised no one's ever asked before (of course most likely no one cares ;) 'cept you obviously...)
Region 5 is one of the Regional Areas of the Forest Service, and it's the one I live in (saying "California" would be far too simple :p).

Here's more from the Takumar 1:3.5/135 (preset) today. All wide open, raw files converted in Lr with no additional sharpening (but some tweaks of levels/curves and obvious B&W conversions ;))...

Love this one...

A while ago I sold my two Takumars (50/1.4 and 28/3.5) and a bunch of other stuff to help fund DA* glass. No regrets, and I love the new stuff, but I was missing the silky smooth solidity of the old stuff, so I pounced on a buy it now last week and now have this setup :D.
I haven't gotten a standout shot with my new lenses (just got 'em this afternoon), but here's one I took today with the Takumar 1:3.5/135 preset...
The barn in my back yard is at least as old as (but not in nearly as good shape as) the lens which took the photo... |
