I know what I can afford, and I don't care to wait for a very long time to afford "the best"; I'm 74, I'm enjoying my life now!

[The $750 range is only 7x what you are going to spend on a cheap alternative.]

That says it right there! 7x more for something that I'll not be using on a regular basis. Not that it matters to anyone, but I'm widowed, living on SS, so I make my own decisions as to what I CAN afford. I'm sure my two used K10D's are inferior to the new beauties; but again, I'm enjoying the heck out of them, and have great results, without saving for a year or more to get the latest & greatest.

As far as "inferior"; again, that's a matter of opinion. If a less expensive option works for someone, I don't consider it "inferior". That's rather snobbish to tag what others have or will have. My two vehicles are an 82, and an 87. Inferior to today's vehicles? Probably others may think so, but you know what; they serve my purpose, and get me to where I'm going!

I'm very surprised by the attitude that if you don't buy the ultimate equipment, don't waste your time; this isn't the atmosphere I'm used to here.

I'm sorry now that I even started this thread. My apologies to those that offered suggestions that I could consider; I do appreciate those suggestions.

the Nest as far as I can find, is right at 3 lbs.

That video did make the GH1 look pretty favorable, didn't it?

Thanks, but I want the regular gimbal. The one I'm thinking of is $300, and that's really stretching what I can afford for one. I will not/cannot go higher.

That definitely is a good report, and reading that, I think I'll save up a bit and go for the Nest NT 530H at $300.

I'm ok with the 3/8" screw:

" The center column has a 1/4-20 stud on one end and a removable 3/8-16 stud base on the other end."

I'm using a TeleVue Telepod tripod that handles 22lbs.

"Nest has a new carbon fiber one for about $300 available here."Now that looks interesting, and the distributor is right here in Montana! Thanks so much for that link!

"All Gimbal roads lead to the Katana."

Perhaps for you; but for that price I could have a K3! I'm on a very limited budget, and while I know the highest priced things tend to be the best; I really would like to afford to eat for the next 6 months!

I guess I had thought I would get suggestions in the price range I could afford; rather than constant pushing for an item way out of my reach, money wise.

The RH1 sadly is only available in England. I want to buy in US, in case of a return; and not go thru the hassle of shipping back overseas.

I'll keep looking, there's bound to be some middle ground available in the US for gimbals. I would not want the Manfrotto you linked to.

I don't see a US place that sells these. Even though I really like the looks of these; I really don't want to purchase overseas.

Those really look nice, but I'd prefer the "bottom" mount over the "side" mount; all of these show the side mount.

I've read the few reviews on Gimbals here, but still want some input from those that have one of these inexpensive units (around $100). I'm considering the Movo GH700; however I've read that the "J" arm is not @90 degrees. Would this be a problem for photographing birds, etc.?

Any suggestions, comments would be greatly appreciated. This will be used with the Bigma, 50-500 lens, on a tripod rated for 22lbs.

Thanks!
