One of the best pieces of Akira's soundtrack.
A little forgotten gem... animation is top-notch (really), the plot is completely absurd and convoluted, the music is very nice.

At the end of a frantic first act, comprising a seastorm and a brawl, comes this beautiful duet.
Franco Corelli has always held a special place in my heart for his beautiful voice but most of all for his masterful musicality, free of any excess or mannerism.

This weird group was doing a live in Paris just yesterday evening... they re-do classical Lieder in various sauces (Schubert's Die Forelle has a reggae/yodel vibe).
They also look like very competent musicians, with a solid technical background.

Michael Rabin, one of the most talented violinists of the 20th century... not as well known as others mainly for the fact that he died so young.
His perfection and crystal-clear articulation was legendary, anecdote-worthy: Ivan Galamian tells in his book about a very difficult étude, and a 1$ "prize" he put up for whoever of his pupils who could play it perfectly from start to finish, and Rabin won the dollar.
This is particularly astounding, given that Galamian schooled such world-class talents as Itzhak Perlman, Pinchas Zuckerman etc. and world-famous theachers like Dorothy DeLay.

I've recently played Nostalghia by him :)
Donatoni's writing style is masterful.
Although very difficult, you always have the feeling that every note serves a purpose, and it's not merely there to make up volume (as with some other "composers"... ).

Less famous than Pergolesi's but still beautiful.
If there actually are "classical" music lovers (whatever that term means), then I can help keeping the ball rolling!

Hahaha!
They are talented musicians, even though I'm not particularly fond of their over-the-top style.
They can often be seen at concerts & in videos (here as well) with half bow hair torn off... it's painful to watch!
I think this whole contamination thing started way back in the '90s with Apocalyptica, then the Bond quartet made it glamorous.
Then came the YouTube stars, like ThePianoGuys and 2Cellos.
Most are top-notch classical musicians as well... I mean, you can take away all the special effects, the costumes, the distortion and they can still play better than many classical players, it's not all smokescreen :)

It's not that... it's technically difficult without real reason.
Sostakovic or Stravinskij are written much better, even though they don't lack in the difficulty department either.
I like Rieu... he manages to make violin playing look effortless and easy.
I had never heard of this Gheorghe Zamfir before, but I'm liking what I hear as well :)
