I remember reading some tests on a photography magazine of the time, and the conclusion was that the 1st series - the one with the zoom ring divided in two sectors and the focusing ring divided into four - was the better of the bunch, and subsequent changes in the optical formula worsened the performance of the "DG" (purportedly optimized for digital) and HSM (even worse, probably due to mass constraints imposed by the focusing mechanism).
I'm completely satisfied with my copy though, so that's probably just nit-picking :)

I might have misphrased that, sorry, language barrier probably.
I did the brake job in february perhaps, and I think the "squealing" started with the hot season (can't be sure because of the lockdown), and now it's almost absent.
Also, it's not continuous, it's only on a certain sector of the whole revolution, that's why that talking about over-tightened disks made me remember - also summer/metal expansion etc.
Also, I was talking about a supermini for everyday use, not a racing car! sorry :p

Now that I think about it, my front-right brake sometimes emits the faintest squeal when I've almost stopped the car... and I've just changed pads & rotors...

A Sigma 70-200mm F2.8 EX APO DG... would have liked the first version better, but this one came with the matched 2X TC for a little more than 300€ including postage, so... :o

Ah the fabled meteor... a camera with very good specs, ground-breaking in some cases (e.g. h.265 encoding), but Samsung bowed out before its true potential could be realized.
It intrigues me... especially after they stopped producing it... must be the aura of mystery :)
Picture is nice :)

A nice find :)
It's also a good thing that the lens found such a capable photographer for its new home :)

Didn't know about ABW... my instrument has pegs and tailpiece of that material.
With bows it's much more complex than with violins... historically the list of materials used for decoration included ivory (at the tip), turtle and whalebone (baleen).

Looks just marvelous... the 13-bladed aperture should make for nice sunstars... I have very few lenses with an odd number of blades, and enjoy a lot shooting with them.

Sorry, meant the wood grain or what you call it.
In Italian we use - among others - the word venatura, hence the brain fart... Veneer we say impiallacciatura, which has a much slapdash-ier sound to it
In Tuscany we use olive wood a lot. It doesn't sink - 990 kg/m3- but it's close :)

That looks beautiful. I've got some flutist friends, so I've seen many up close. I even took a couple of lessons, just to get a feel for what playing another (a different one from the ones I already play I mean! :p) instrument is like.
Photo is very nice as well, love the light plays on the wood veneer.

A 345 for me :) I like the F40, but it's a tad intimidating... must be a real beast.

You can find a used Ferrari 360 Modena for about 35'000 €, if that's what you like.
There actually is such a thing as a cheap Ferrari :)

A real genius...
Thankfully he wrote "will throw in" and not "up"...
Follow his sales, bid on the lot again next time, and when he cancels (if he has not upped his game by then) file a complaint to eBay.

I'm not too keen on doing something myself, even if I'd like a lot to, because I always think you would look like a "hey, pick and choose" to an eventual burglar
Very, very nice though.

...that second video (the Rimsky-Korsakov one) must be the most watched Sheherazade on YouTube! I lost count of how many times I listened to that. A fine performance.

You could do like I do with my K-01... buy an LCD viewfinder, and use LV magnification if focusing manually.

I think it has to do with what people do with those.
You can only mount one lens at a time, so if a lens is ok-ish, like most f/2, and offers nothing in particular, then it's not sought after.
OTOH, a lens with peculiar characteristics, which can help you get shots you can't get any other way, has more value because it's "different".
I mean, you could replace a 70-200/2.8 from Sigma with one from Tamron and no one would ever notice, but you can't do soap-bubble or swirly bokeh with more "usual" lenses.
Then a whole "mystique" develops, and people just go crazy

Do you have an idea for how much modern replicas of Meyer Optik Görlitz lenses sell?
There's a whole market of bokeh fetishists paying mind-boggling sums for that kind of lenses, and it affected the used market as well.
Here, knock yourself out! :D https://www.meyer-optik-goerlitz.com/en-us/lenses/?p=1 |

You talk as if it was a bad lens... there's actually quite a rush to get those kind of vintage bubble-monsters.
12£ is a steal.

If you're a fan of bubble bokeh, then that's one lens to keep.
I'd have bought it, for 30£, so here's some validation to your purchase :p :)
