A few I've taken the past week. K-5 and Sigma 150-500 for all of them.
Horned grebe, eurasian siskin and wren (although heavily cropped)

Today was the first time I saw an owl in the wild. Such a cool bird!
Shot using the K-5 and Sigma 150-500.
First picture at 500mm, 1/400 at F6.3 ISO 1250
Second picture at 370, 1/1000 at F8 ISO 1600
Both slightly cropped. northern hawk-owl (Surnia ulula) by Gustav Wikström, on Flickr

Thanks! Early morning, about 3 - 4 am. There was mist over the lake and the sunrise had just begun.
Thanks!

So far, so good, I would say. It's a little bit soft at the long end but if you use it in good light and stop it down, it produces good image quality.
The AF is nice and quiet, although not the fastest, and the OS is great. For birding, I think it does great.
It might not be the best for lens for shooting birds in flight (from the experience I've had so far). I'm using it with a K-5 and feel like the K-5's AF system might hold the lens back from performing at its best. Maybe a K-3 would do better? With that said, the lens gives you great bang for the buck. So if you choose to get one, I think you wouldn't get disappointed.
