Could use some hand holding for my FF decision (upgrade/leave advice)

I didn't but I know that both the 150-600 and the p 150-450 are supposed to be pretty good quality lenses and both are far better than the Bigma 50-500 option we have. Is one better than the other, I do not know I wish someone like dxo mark had more pentax lens data. Is the tamron 150-600 at around $1000 new good enough for me definantly thats why I wish there was a k mount, the bigma probably not so much, 150-450 awfully expensive for my needs.

  1. One of the layers of coatings seems a bit smeared see 31mm lens issue - Album on Imgur

  2. I just never wanted to use it bad enough to use up to three editing programs for a single image i guess.

  3. my understanding is the digital coating comes with the D seris lenses and was designed to correct issues with digital sensors such as reducing purple fringing. There was such a long and technical thread on here one day all about the fa 31 and what the technical lens concerns people see are and coatings and so much stuff...

  4. Other than the dealer who used ot stock pentax stuff locally, the closes is 494 miles away that maybe stocks things

  5. Never looked into that, not sure how comfortable I would be asking someone I dont know to try out their K-1 if any of them have that model

  6. Does that mean the 15-30 and 24-70 may perform better/worse in terms of resolution and sharpness than their tamron cousins?

  7. this is related to 3 where, yes theres tons of lenses, but I don't know of most of them and gernally feel comfortable buying newer glass. The more I look into the k1 the less I see this being an issue outside of wanting something like the tamron 150-600 for that price

  8. at 15mp I'd rather just use my k3ii still if I specifcally wanted to use the crop only lenses such as my 70mm limited. I love my k3ii

  9. 100% of my worry about modern lens coatings is from my disapointment in the fa 31mm i boughts performance considering it should have cost more than twice what I spent. That and my lack of expirence with a wide array of glass, low years of exprience. Its a concern I appreicate people showing me when/how its a none issue because Id honestly like to get a k1 some glass and just be happy with it.

Yeah I meant the tamron 150-600 g2, I know that they and sigma make 4 pretty simialr focal lengths around there. I had read that the bigma 50-500 we can get falls off pretty fast but I dont remember hearing that the tamron was terrible at 600, so you very well could be right and the Pentax lens on the K1 may provide much better pictures which would make me happy. In the end, the least pain may be sticking with my k3ii and continuing to tell myself its good enough and try to be better with it.

I've looked at renting cameras, but after needing the body and at least one lens often the price is close to $200 for a few days which would only be enough time for me to evaluate a camera if I hated it. I don't have decades of experience with different bodies and lenses so I rely heavily on more experienced people's suggestions, reviews and statistics. A lot of the time I like to know I got the best performance per dollar possible that's why I bought into Pentax int he first place.

Granted my focus technique does need work, but I don't live in a city where I can practice everyday nor is street my main focus in photography as this discussion seems to have been turned towards. My main passion are landscapes and milky way nightscapes, but I don't really need any help with those just the lower noise levels and higher light gathering capictiy of full frame. Right now I'm spending hours image stacking (manually aligning 6+ star files takes time) and ending single images to try and make them look as clean and crisp as people who can get by with single raw exposures or stacks much smaller than mine requiring less computer power than I need.

Some people seem to be taking on a negative attitude towards me in their responses at this point. People seem to be taking a few negative points of mine, and instead of working through them with me, they're getting offended.

I'm also running a survey on Reddit about lenses, so far Pentax has a lens for every usage case anyone has brought up which makes me feel more at ease, except something like the Tamron 100-600 because of the quality and price difference with the 150-450. I am feeling more at ease wanting the K1 and more excited about the chance to spend long nights with it out in the mountains.

I didnt like the d810s fixed screen, dual format cards, or extra cost (+600 refurbished)
The kp lacks a lot of what I love about the k3ii. I was disappointed CP came and went with no mention of a crop body flagship replacement.

I mostly want to clean up my astro images and all of my cloudy PNW day street images plus the shallow depth of field play. I just keep getting told by everyone and everything "make sure you have the lenses you want, Pentax doesn't have many lenses" So i want to make sure that any major ones I do want are covered, all seem to be except a ultra zoom for a reasonable price, and a decent 35mmish alternative if I don't like the 31mm limited.

It might, or like you stated above it may be a combination of how i used it and being used on crop. If I had paid retail it would be gone but I paid less than 500 so it may be worth holding onto and hoping to break even posting it here if I end up not liking it.

Im not sure what I am trying to convince myself. I struggle in street scenes where i have less than 5 second to compose, focus and get a shot or miss it forever

So to start this off I just need to say I am very indecisive about this sort of thing and generally spend countless hours researching all the details, but in this case, I'm under somewhat of a time crunch. I bought a FA 31mm used with a minor lens coating issue and only have until Thursday to return it, I don't really like it for my k3ii so unless I commit to the K1 back it must go. I am also borrowing a tamron 70-200 that must go to its owner soon, and want to buy a rokinon for milkyway season that's coming up.
I have a decent selection of crop sensor Pentax glass mostly shoot my da* 16-50 2.8, starting to make use of a tamron 70-200 for long zoom shots would even enjoy something like a 100-600, and the 35 2.4 limited. I shoot a lot of landscapes, sunsets, cityscapes, street photography both mid day and after dark, milky way landscapes, water falls/ocean, and play around with portraits and what ever else is fun at the time. I love the feel of my k3ii, the weather sealing, this forums, sensor stabilization and horizon correction, how bracketing worked in manual, how I only needed menus to change shooting mode, gps though I have yet to really require it I like having it there, would like to get my astrotrace functional but haven't utilized it yet, never used pixel shift because light room didn't support it

I think I require the basic zoom trinity in FF, a rokinon 24 1.4 for milkyway, Id like one of those ultra sig/tamron zooms 100-600 ish for fun and probably a fast solid lens for street photography in cloudy Seattle. Im not sure if or when I would want more prime lenses or if I would really utilize focal lengths under 24 .
My concerns with the k1 or mk2 are: lack of digital coating primes (that 31 limited has purple fringing past f8 with my subjects) the only dealer in the PNW hardly supports Pentax anymore, its hard to find anyone in person with Pentax stuff to try out or buy, poor 3rd manufacturer support, the zoom lenses seem to be modified g1 tamron lenses with out IS but they often cost as much or more than G2 Tamron glass, lack of variety of lenses at different prices, i already struggle with the k3ii auto focus and I would really like a system people consider "great", slowness in which they are adding lenses, I don't really enjoy stop down metering to use old glass, Knowing crop mode is only 15mp, thinking even the crop glass that covers the frame is likely lower performance than FF glass.
If I don't stay here and go K1 Ill most likely go Nikon D750 giving up gps, that super cool k1 screen, IBIS, maybe some ergonomics but ill have several choices of zoom lenses at more price points, I can get more zoom than the Pentax 150-400 for far less money, I think there's more sub f2 prime lenses with modern lens coatings, I can try/ buy more in person, also have access to older used glass, would be easier to adapt to sony if I ever went mirror less afterwards.

I know this is a ton to go through but I don't have anyone I can sit down with and have a conversation about this who knows the Pentax system.
