That doesn't work that way, and in fact, in some countries can be considered breaking laws and regulations related to trade and commerce. Let me explain:

If a company issues some news about new products being developed, this information can (and will) affect the perceived (speculative) market value of this company's shares. Shareholders take decisions considering this information. OTOH, if the company issues news about discontinuing such and such product, then the perceived value drops...

Filing for a patent DOES NOT MEAN the company is going to release a new product. It just means they want to protect an invention (device) from being used by others (competition), even if they never use it. Sometimes the idea behind a patent is just to be able to "charge" another company for the right to use such device. In this case, the term is "royalties".

Om the contrary my dear colleague; your remark predicts a painfully true scenario to future full framers :lol::lol:

So painful it becomes hilarious!!!!

NO PAIN - NO GAIN

Not all cyborgs are created equal... nor as functional or attractive !:lol::lol:

Because sometime in a not so distant future, certain things will be still produced as today...

I would dare to say this issue will be addressed by a CF (custom function) where the body, upon recognition of a DA lens, automatically switches to cropped mode... 1: Auto, 2: Does not switch, 3: Always in FF mode and 4: Always in APSC mode.... or something like that.

Point is, such decision should be made by the photographer. Especially when considering the use of third party glass or vintage glass that will not transmit lens information. I bet many people will chose to use only the "sweet spot" of certain mid to long range glass, buy using APSC mode even though lens in use covers full frame.

You may ask why in hell someone would want to get APSC size images when they can get full frame... short answer: No need for the huge file! Besides, I am sure the body when switches to APSC mode, it will use a different set of image processing parameters to improve the APSC format and not just crop the leftover pixels from the full frame.

Think "Iphone". One single device sold in different flavors (capacity, memory). Pentax could easily adopt this marketing structure, having a single model of the top flagship, plus some available improvement accessories (besides optics), like grips, flashguns, tethering hardware, etc.

In fact, Pentax has been doing precisely that all the past years, by having in production a flagship and just an entry level body.

Questions now are:

Is Pentax planning to abandon the high end spectrum of the APS-C segment?

Is the K3 the last top specs APS-C?

Is Pentax going to discontinue all the DA glass and replace full line with DFA (full frame)?

Also, prototype shown (picture) is a 3D printed mock up... so anything could change!

Signs of 3# printing:

Everything is same color
All textures are identical
Metal things (as strap holder rings) show black and bigger than normal
Visible 3D printer "banding"
No visible separation of components where should be (top of camera and body leatherette)

Fine detail parts show lack of precision and burrs (look at Tv dial and ON/OFF switch)

This is a direct comparison between published picture of new FF camera and an actual K3 promotional picture.

Here is a size comparison using the IR sensor window as reference:

The lower image compares new model with the K3's contour, based on the upper comparison, positioning new model and contour based on lens center.

Hmmm.... I bet there are a lot of specs yet to be announced, but as for WIFI, I would dare to say this new flagship will not have it (built in), but it will be available as an add on device (like the GPS thingie for the K3...). The point is, WIFI protocols are improving every day and changing a lot. Most of the WIFI hardware regularly used a year ago, now is obsolete and needs replacement for newer wireless protocols. I wouldn't want my brand new, pro level, full frame body.... become obsolete just because it cannot handle next generation WIFI protocols.

Are you sure about this. Both the DA* 200 and 300 are full frame compatible?
