From the PhotoPlus interview:
“Q: As a growing number of users are becoming vocal about not wanting to compromise with the KP, is the high-end APS-C (i.e. K-3 II) product line one which will be continued?
A: This is being worked on. If you like the K-1 and some of its features, look for an APS-C offering in the not too distant future.”

Ricoh has made comments about researching a K3 successor and I looked up that there were seven years between the D300S and the D500.
I don’t expect that long of a wait but some of it may be due to them wanting technology to advance enough that the model is really compelling to buy.
Just adding a flippy screen and a bit more buffer might be something they could do earlier but would people buy it in numbers?
A warmed over 24mp camera might not sell well.

The K70 is not several hundred dolllars more expensive.
A couple hundred, but not several.
DSLR Camera, SLR Camera, Digital SLR Cameras | B&H
And it has pentaprism finder, weather sealing and dual control wheels which are absent from entry level
As for JPEGS, those can be tweaked to user preferences and they are a matter of taste.

With the camera business in contraction the last few years, there has been a migration out of the low end.
Look at all the high end mirror less FF and the trophy lenses from Sigma, Pentax, Sony, Fuji etc.
This is par for the course for the industry.
