Photography can be art; there are various other reasons for photographing a scene.

Took the photo below.of our younger daughter roughly thirty years ago; I have never thought of it as “art”, just a memory from then. Recently, she asked me if I had any photos of her when she was about the age that her daughter was now, so I texted that photo to her. She didn’t criticize it; she was simply thrilled, saying that her daughter shows a lot of the same personality.

You didn’t bother to provide a reference; I was able to find post #6858, but not a truck. I didn’t see anywhere that opinions were asked for. Your words may or may not have been ‘harsh’, but I didn’t see them asked for - and I don’t agree.

I just ordered it and then forget it until it arrived {shipped from Japan to Indiana}; I don’t even remember how long I waited.

I will also post these pictures on the squirrel thread, but I'm posting them here also because of my experience with lenses on the Q-7.

Yesterday while on my regular walk, I saw a squirrel doing what my twenty-something daughter calls "playing Froggy" {i.e., trying to cross a busy road without being run over}; at the moment, I wished I had a useful camera {my cell phone is way wide angle} with me, so today I took my Q-7 kit with me, with the 06 mounted. Of course, no squirrel braved the busy road today, but I did see this one in a nearby yard. Normally one of these fox squirrels will look quickly and then dash up the tree, but this one hung around, so after taking a couple of pictures with the 06 lens

I mounted the Tamron Adaptall #59A (28-70MM) I also had with me [note: for display here, the 06 image is cropped more than the #59A one is, of course]

I definitely need more practice in focusing the #59A {for one thing, I discovered later that I hadn't expanded my Hoodman quite all the way, so my view was a tad blurry by definition}, but this lens+adapter is small enough to have real possibilities as a regular in my Q-7 pouch. Next I need to find an opportunity to try both the #59A and the #44A that I also have.

I already posted these pictures in the Squirrels Thread, but I thought maybe I should post them here also. My wife and I just now returned from a trip to Quebec province in Canada; we had a hotel room just outside Old Quebec, and then another just outside Old Montreal, so in each case we were able to wander around on foot without having to drive in these crowded areas {other than arriving at the hotel and then leaving}, but of course this was rather hard on our 60-year-old+ bodies, so I pared my camera kit down to a wide-ish angle lens on my K-30 and my complete Q-7 outfit. When we saw this black squirrel on the Plains of Abraham, this made my Q-7 + 06 my camera of choice.

The pictures above were the scene just three days ago. This morning, I saw the following scene:

and when I returned from my regular walk a couple of hours later, the nest appeared to be completely empty.

{remember this the next time someone talks about how rapidly our children seem to grow up}

Last year we discovered a robin nesting on one of the pillars which supports our porch roof. Apparently she was able to build her nest in just one day, so she had the job done before she discovered that we used the garage door {just behind her} at least twice a day, and the front door {just ahead of her} at least once a day. Every time we used either door, she freaked out. {I was able to take this picture of her from the front door before she freaked out} Other than the door that leads to our back deck, these are the only entrances to the house, so we didn't have the option of not using them while she sat on the nest ... so not surprisingly, her eggs never hatched.

This year I discovered the nest when it was only partly built, so I destroyed it and used duct tape to temporarily box in that area, so she moved to the bush at the garage corner. Apparently being less open made her feel more protected, so she no longer freaked out when we used the doors. Yesterday I was sitting on the porch when I heard some brief "cheeping" as she left the nest, so I went inside for my birding kit, and from the safe {from her perspective} distance of the porch was able to get this picture.

So, will a smaller aperture result in less PF?

Yesterday during my walk I noticed a goose family at the drainage pond between a local mall and the bypass, so today I took my birding kit {Q7 + Sigma 70-300mm APO + Hoodman clone + monopad} with me. I didn't see the geese, but a couple of mallard ducks were sitting in the weeds on my side of the pond

After a few minutes, as I watched from a distance, they slowly got up and moved into the water. Once they were swimming, I understood why they had been moving so slowly

After eighteen months of experiments, I feel that I have a reasonable but inexpensive birding kit built around my Q-7; it consists of a Sigma 70-300mm f/4-5.6 APO DG lens {normally used at f/8} mounted on a Pentax adapter. So I refilled the feeders and went out on our deck in the hopes that a bird would stop by {recognizing that they have all kinds of options at this time of year}.

My hopes were more than met! Here are a few of the pictures I took. I may do something later with them, but right now I'm posting them Straight Out Of Camera as a tribute to what the Q-7 can do.

BTW: I really like this last one

Nice! such an apparent attitude!

How much PP did you have to do to get this?
What PP tool did you use?

Thank you very much for the links to current downloads (the last time I tried to download this software, I spent several hours cleaning up something (called "winvac" IIRC) that was extremely annoying but my computer didn't recognize it as a virus.

Of course I didn't mind - I need all the help I can get. (thank you!) As someone who used slide film through out the film era, all this stuff is conceptually new to me, and I can use all the suggestions I can get. When I do a search for Lightroom clones, they seem to focus more on the library functions than on the developing functions, Darktable looks to me to be the best alternative, but the one system they openly do not support is Windows (which is all I have right now); I've been thinking of getting a Linux system, and this may push me to actually do that. I suppose I should try out RawTherapee also.

Is there any way to do something similar with SilkyPix? In general, I do not like the new "subscription" model used by companies such as MicroSoft and Adobe to turn me into a perpetual source of money; to paraphrase Everett Dirksen, former senator from Illinois, "ten dollars here; ten dollars there; soon we're talking about real money". These days I'm using gimp instead of PhotoShop, but the only Lightroom clone I'm aware of doesn't seem to have a Windows port (but someday I'll get a Linux box and can use it).

Below is an example of the type of picture I'm talking about. (we went to the local performance of a group known as "Straight No Chaser", and our seats were in the first row of the second balcony - so we had nothing but air, a lot of air, between use and them)

That is partly a tribute to their PP work. I have some photos I took at a concert last month - the stage was dark and vapory so I had to go to high ISO levels. They clearly show noise. Right now I'm just not ready to do the PP work needed to clean them up. Frankly, when it comes to hobby time, there is only so much time I'm willing to put into PP.

It's not often that we see the background naturally soft like this with the Q.

I really like this one!

Did you have to do much post-processing to capture the subtle contrasts on the right side of the image while still getting proper exposure / contrasts for the church?

Was this picture taken at the Land Between the Lakes National Recreation Area in KY / TN??

I have a virtually identical slide I took there 21 years ago.

A good example of benefitting from the deep DOF that comes from using a small sensor.
