No matter how much money I have, I won't purchase a lens I wouldn't use.

This is what confuses me. I hear people saying "Pentax needs ___ right now!" almost simultaneously with "___ needs to be much better than what I already have". Making 'better' happens one lens at a time, and takes time. Once they do get it right, they will sell only so many of them, so they can justify putting only so many highly talented people on the task. In my mind, I'm not certain whether the goal is to make money off lenses or to have the lenses available to reassure those who are thinking of purchasing a new camera.

I guess that is the difference in our budgets - I consider a lens without a constant minimum aperture to be an option .... which is why I have come to value higher ISO values,

Are FA lenses inadequate? When I first came here four years ago, the pleading I was hearing was "I want a FF camera so my old film lenses can resume their standard duties" Good To Be Back - PentaxForums.com
... now I'm hearing that DFA must be available for all functions.

Is Pentax missing any "basic" FF lenses now? If not, it is time for them to be producing niche lenses so that niche users will also be attracted to the K-1 series .... assuming, of course, that serving that niche market makes financial sense {and portraits is one of the relatively large niches}

This is where the "glass is forever" myth meets reality; the designers are always at a point where they could do better, or at least differently, given more resources {including technology}, and eventually they get to the point of actually doing it - and enough people like what they did to spend money. Otherwise, we'd all still have a Super Takumar 50mm f/1`4 as the primary lenses on our cameras.

Not as bad as having some kind of intermittent issue with ones in the field.

Of all the manufacturers, Pentax seems to depend more on current users devoted to old lenses, so I expect them to internally resolve the legacy lens issue before Ricoh would sign off on entering the MILC market.

No, some years ago I moved to Canon because I liked their EF lenses so much better than what Pentax was doing. I had reliability issues with Rebels, so eventually I came back to Pentax; if Pentax had no longer existed, most likely I would have either gone to Sony or stayed with Canon - I can't imagine my ever going to Fuji ---------- Post added 09-18-17 at 11:33 PM ----------
Maybe only the conservative ones stayed with Pentax after their issues with AF and digital.
