Very few of us photograph flat surfaces;
even someone who does discovers that the end of a flat surface is farther away from the camera than the closest spot is.

I believe that within a generation, apertures wider than F/4 will be used only by artists wanting "subject isolation", and in that case the subject will be placed between the 1/3rd and 2/3rd marks.

Going to f/1.n really limits DOF. I see new bodies {my KP gives good images at 12800 or even higher} as the answer to churches, castles, etc.

Equally importantly, back then people did not focus on edge-to-edge sharpness.

The new standard is corner-to-corner perfection.
Lenses like the Zeiss standard and the "Zeiss killer" eight-element 50mm f/1.4 Takumar concentrated on the center of the image.

Seldom does one feature alone 'sell a camera'.
I believe the K-01 was doomed by its lack of EVF ..... but Pentax seemed to 'learn' not to produce MILCs.
Some people complained that the KP "is just a more expensive K-70", but I see it as having much better build-quality than a K-70.
Some people complain that the KP lacks buffer and top deck from K-3 family, but I see it as not making me pay for the K3 family features I don't want.

Or just make a K-mount MILC. The grip on a camera like the Z7 is at least as deep as K-mount flange distance, so the camera wouldn't be any deeper than other MILCs, and this way they wouldn't have to construct even more lenses, but would still encourage the purchase of Pentax lenses.

I wonder how often that will happen with the new stuff

Isn't that where lens designers earn their keep - in getting just the right combination of elements to get desired characteristics?

I was reminded Monday of the shortcoming of a 'unifocal' lens. I was taking a photo of a relatively new train station, but I was frustrated that there was so much parking lot in the picture, regardless of where I stood. When I was stuck with the 45mm lens on my rangefinder camera or the 50mm lens kitted with my Super Program, I would have snapped the picture and been satisfied, but this time I switched to my Sigma 10-20mm lens, stepped forward, and zoomed out, thereby eliminating much foreground of the photo I didn't take from the photo I did take. I have learned so much about composition since I got zoom lenses, and framing was no longer chained to perspective! I'm glad for those who have been waiting for a 50mm lens, but I wouldn't purchase one if I were the richest person on earth.

I believe I've seen focal length listed in inches for old C-mount lens manufactured for old movie camera ..... but nothing recent.

If I were a manager at Ricoh, I'd ask Pentax to get it out the door as soon as they could.

Japan has essentially same seasons North America does, and I'm guessing that is more relevant to a Pentax mind.

I find his comments to be disingenuous. I am sure some people need the characteristics he demands, but a view camera might best for the pictures he actually takes. ISO=100 should be adequate for the pictures he takes; my squirrels move faster than his dead rabbit, and my K-30 is adequate for those most of the time.

Don't all the new lenses contain in-lens motor, so we can finally put screw drive behind us?

Fast enough to capture a dead rabbit, and my K-30 is fast enough to capture many living animals .... the KP with PLM lens and K-1 with modern lenses will do just fine.

These lenses demonstrate that focus speed is a "team effort". When people say "Pentax is doing nothing about AF", their attention needs to be directed to lenses, not just bodies.

We don't know anything about the mechanical aspects of this lens.
I keep hearing that the new {PLM} version of the 55-300mm lens focuses much faster than the old version does. Perhaps Pentax intends for this lens to also improve focus behavior.
