I may go the opposite way.
For me, my KP is my primary camera, but weight is becoming an issue for it.
I am experimenting to see if I will be satisfied with what a “Q” gives me on birding walks with my wife.
At age 74, lugging the KP is too much, so I may otherwise have have a choice of not going or of not taking a real camera.

When our girls were young, all cameras were MF .... but I have wonderful photos of them somehow. My Pentax KP produces very admirable SOOC JPEGs these days, so I'm guessing the K-1ii could do that also.

@Kerrowdown does very well with film-era manual lenses on his K-1.
I believe any 'improvement' resulting from his using "digital" lenses would be minimal at best.
Yes, Pentax should upgrade old lenses - and they are.
Most of us should be more interested in user upgrades.

I really like these two photos - they are one example of the kind of thing that has gotten me talking about the advantages of 'graceful handling of high ISO'

My thought is that perhaps, for a 24mp FF camera, most of the electronics could come from a recent 24mp APS-C camera {such as the KP}. Reusing hardware/software, but making one significant change, is a common way of "leveraging" development these days.

In response to a question I raised on this very subject, Adam expressed the opinion that current K-1 pricing is designed to clear out all current K-1 inventory. Under this scenario, a new 24mp wouldn't be competing with the K-1 .... it would be competing with the K-1ii, the KP, and the K-3ii replacement.
Nikon guys are convinced that the D750 makes sense. I'm just depending on their opinions - actual measurements would be interesting.

If I purchased any FF camera, I would use the film lenses I already have. From using them on my K-30, I've already determined they provide an "adequate" sharpness for me I'm not willing to pay what they are demanding for newer FDA lenses.

I originally thought 24mp FF for three reasons
(1) I understood Asahiman to be talking about two new FF cameras. It seemed too early to replace the K-1ii, so 'bracketing' it with 24mp and 45mp made more sense.
(2) 24mp could serve as a 'beginner' - lower cost - FF camera. In response to a question I asked in another thread, Adam seemed to think that the lower price for the K-1 is to eliminate their current stock, so there would be price room for a lower-spec camera.
(3) Nikon users periodically inquire about a 'D750 followup'. They view the 24mp $1400 D750 as being much better - especially lower noise - at higher ISO values than the 20mp $1800 D500 is.

You use heritage prime lenses with your K-1. What is your thinking in using them instead of the new DFA lenses?

Based on how you use your cameras, would you have been willing to consider a 24mp FF camera if that were also available? or would you want the 36mp for the extra pixels for printing and/or cropping?

I don't have one - but I love the idea of a third dial I could use to adjust ISO .... that way I'd have external controls for all the things I'd want to adjust in the field, and I could do all of it in a few seconds without ever taking my eye away from the viewfinder - I'm not sure what I would need a top LCD for.

Do you use prime lenses most of the time? When I shoot with zoom lenses, most of the time I'm not even aware of what Focal Length I am using

My digitizing system is an ancient WinXP system I inherited from my Dad running a Nikon LS-2000 scanner. My media dates back only 50 years, but much of them have picked up scratches and/or fungus spots; this scanner scans each line 16 times and uses parallax to eliminate most defects that are not actually into the emulsion layer, but then I use gimp to review each scan and "fix" any issues. I've been doing this since 2009, and am close to the end; I'd have to check my records {yes, I am counting them}, but I believe this slow process is just past 5000 now. I have Plustek and Epson scanners, but they seem to leave more "artifacts" behind for me to clean up.

Most all of my slides were Kodachrome 25, and I picked those for my test because I expected them to be the sharpest. Also, I picked ones with identifiable detail {images with books in view, or railroad cars with lettering - that sort of thing}.
I agree that people focus too much on pixel peeking. I always sat my "audience" to slide shows behind the projector because I wanted them to look at the entire picture, because that was what I was thinking of when I took the picture. I did my experiment in 2003, because I didn't want to leave film until digital could demonstratively do better. I have always been limited by how much money I'm willing to spend on my hobby, so my conclusion was that I would go digital when cameras in my price range (*) could deliver at least 3000 pixels horizontally.
And, please don't take my words as criticism of you - I didn't mean that. We are allowed to have different goals and different evaluations of how things fit into those goals.
(*) The most expensive camera I've ever purchased was a Canon Elan kit I purchased for $700 in 1995. Taking inflation into account, I now feel comfortable purchasing a KP.

Military applications are different. I know from my own experiments that 35mm Kodachrome contained roughly 6MP of information; I had 35mm slides scanned at 6mp; comparing scanned image on computer screen to slide image projected on screen, every bit of detail on the slide was also on the scan. I know the lens was not the issue, because using that same lens on my K-30 gave me sharper images than it ever gave me on slides.

In what format are you making the comparison - print or screen? No matter how you make the comparison, digital is sharper than film; that is all I'm saying. I'm guessing that is what you are reacting to - digital would also be "creamier" if you smoothed boundaries.

My K-30 gives me better images than my Super Program loaded with Kodachrome ever did, even when using the same lens.

So, your legacy lenses were primes?
