Could Ricoh make the camera without compromise? (Ricoh-Patent on PDAF and/or CD AF)

I will rephrase my comment - the first digital cameras I had any intimate awareness of were
(1) a Nikon P&S my mother gave me in summer 2005 to get me interested in digital photography
(2) a Canon P&S we gave our daughter in December 2005 before she made a trip to England

Each of them had a small internal memory - enough to hold 2 or 3 photos - and each could hold a standard {for the time} SD card. Each is now long gone - I don't remember any option in either to transfer photos between the two memories. I viewed the internal memory the same way I viewed the built-in flash ..... something for a true amateur, someone who didn't need greater capability.

At one time, internal memory was common in all consumer-grade cameras.

This is entirely an opinion - mine is different. I hate deep grips and contoured bodies. I learned to take a photo by putting my right thumb under the body and pressing down on it with my forefinger on the shutter button - something almost impossible to do with the monsters they build today. I use the smallest grip available for my KP, and that is almost small enough. So many people today claim they cannot handle a long lens on a body with a 'small' grip, but that was routine fifty years ago, because we knew how to hold a camera to make it work.

Today, CNN is reporting tornado damage in Celina, Ohio - a town 60 miles east of where my family formerly lived for twenty-one years - so I sent my family a photo I took there in 1980. I took the photo with a Pentax-M 50mm f/2 lens mounted on a Pentax ME/SE camera; that was good equipment back then, and it fit into my budget, but that was back then. Today my KP + DA 18-135mm can easily take much better photos - but I don't have a "way back" machine that allows me to retake photos from forty years ago. What any of us does today is a balance between resources available to us and what is "needed".
