Difficult one for me to answer. Here are my thoughts.
I would like to agree on being able to use it handheld. But then again, I don´t. It depends on the situation. It takes some practice anyway and I have even used it as a walkaround lens.
In good light conditions, when you are able to keep shutterspeed and ISO down it is not much of a problem. Especially if you use it in the lower focal range, say up to 300mm or so.
But to get the best results out of it I like to use a tripod or monopod if I can. You simply gain image quality / sharpness. With the K-1 that makes a bit of a difference.
I see that for birders anything below 300mm is pretty useless. So I can understand the thought of the 150 – 300mm range being “obsolete”. But for wildlife I would not want to miss the extra focal range. Moving away from portrait shots and picturing more of the scene around my motive is a gain for me and adds other possibilities.

Thank you - and yes! I certainly did not get this lens for macro photography. But together with the cropping ability of the K-1, it works quite well. I am not going to complain about it! ---------- Post added 06-24-17 at 12:49 PM ----------
I am only noticing now.
The dragonfly on your avatar pic seems to be of the same kind as the one on my pics?

@ Kevriano
Funny, I had excactly the same problem last weekend. Chasing Dragonflies, they would not let me get close enough to take decent shots with the 100mm macro lens. So I decided to give the 150-450 a try.
Cropping ability of the K1 is absolutely fantastic!
Following pics are around 80% crops.

Thought that I post some pictures taken last year on our trip to Namibia & Botswana. I had just gotten the 150 - 450, so the learning curve was steep! I did not regret the purchase. Its a fine lens and performs well together with the K-1.

Thanks for your opinion. Your observations in Australia seem to indicate that the lens is selling better than shops have estimated.
Here in Germany the price has remaind stable since it hit the market. I wonder if that means, that the lens is selling well enough so shops don´t need to lower the price. In my opinion the 150-450 might get more popular with a FF coming in spring 2016 and prices might remain stable even after the christmas sales.

You people keep on posting very good pictures taken with the 150-450. Thanks for that and keep them coming! One day I might own one too...!
Does anyone know how good (or bad) this lens is selling? I mean, does it pay off for Pentax? Does anyone know something about sales numbers? Just curios.
