Thanks, I am not well versed in the world of insects. If I had more free time I could look them up. I do have a few books around here somewhere.

These were taken in August so it is around the end of the season for them here in Michigan. On the rare occasions I see in the wild here I get a bit too excited and have to remind myself I am allergic to bee stings.
Here is a little grouping with one of my vary almost in flight captures.

Thank you, I was lucky to have the lighting just right and virtually no wind. He probably had been around for awhile and was not moving too much. I did try a few straight shots but those proved far more difficult and pretty much tested the limits of my abilities hand holding that Sigma 180 Macro. It is definitely not a lightweight lens.

From what I remember I would say about 3 inches long. It was taken last year.

There are so many threads it can difficult to decide where to post photos. These are the last macros of this year. They are all taken with the K-1 and DFA 100 Macro WR. Natural light and hand held.
I was so excited and happy to see a monarch in nature. It should not be this way. I used to see them all the time. IMGP5904.jpg by Michael, on Flickr IMGP5894.jpg by Michael, on Flickr
