Likewise, don't take a baseball bat to a gunfight (or screw with old men).

You Tube

This old man is a hoot. He got 8 staples in his head from getting whacked in the head with a baseball bat. I am starting to think it isn't good to mess with old men in Florida.

QuoteQuote:

Officer Craig Matthews shot seven times. Officer Robert Sinishtaj fired nine times, police said. Neither had ever fired their weapons before on a patrol. The volley of gunfire felled Johnson in just a few seconds and left nine other people bleeding on the sidewalk.

"it appears that all nine of the victims were struck either by fragments or by bullets fired by police," Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly told reporters on Saturday at a community event in Harlem.

He reiterated that the officers appeared to have no choice but to shoot Johnson, whose body had 10 bullets wounds in the chest, arms and legs.

"I believe it was handled well," Kelly said.

No doubt that they had to shoot but I think they not only haven't fired their weapons on patrol, but suspect range and training is minimal. Mr. Williams went 3/5 and had pretty good shooting lanes and moved according to the circumstances. Remember that the security video didn't record every frame.

The Cafe Bandits couldn't or wouldn't shoot back? At the bare minimum, one of the Cafe Bandits had a ball bat and was using it to bust up the place. Plus, only the gun toting bandit said his .45 wouldn't work. Furthermore, they started the criminal felony act. Williams didn't shoot at people sitting in chairs. He still went 3 for 5. It is funny that the people that were there aren't the ones complaining.

As far as the Wisconsin Bandits go, they were armed against an unarmed 71 y.o. man. Plus, their presence on the street put many in danger. These guys were on a spree in Wisc before fleeing to FL. Who knows what they did in between.

Update: Fugitives suspected in brutal beating of convenience store clerk

You still ignored the fact that the Cafe Bandits are off the streets. The "firing" away comment is very naive. Plus, it is still they wait to see if the "hurt you bad or kill you" before you do something logic. The bad guys have already demonstrated they were willing to perpetrate mayhem in both cases.

The old man was beaten unconscious and ended up in a trauma unit in bad condition. You are stepping around the argument that you guys like to make about it complying to the wishes of cutthroats. You also have failed to acknowledge that Williams' actions helped get those Cafe Bandits off the streets which will curtail there criminal endeavors for a while. The fact is, when criminals ply their trade, they have already created and unsafe situation.

Mistreating the elderly will guarantee them 10 years and using the knife will guarantee them another 10 on top of everything else in this crime plus the other stuff later. Then they have to face whatever they were in Boy Scout Camp where the broke out in Wisconsin. They also have kidnapping charges and grand theft auto to face along with stealing fire arms.

Violent crime has been around a long time. Why don't you post some of your provincial and local city news? We could use an update on the cannibalism story and the 1st degree murder conviction of the Canadian judge that shot his wife. Will they hang him or just give him parole?

The knife wielding bandits forced him to open the register. However, that wasn't enough so they gave him a sever beating that put him in a trauma unit. They have been caught and apparently broke out of jail in Wisconsin.

I have never reloaded a 9mm either and the price isn't there and really nothing to gain performance wise either. I have looked at the .257 Roberts in the past.

I load:

.45 acp
.44 magnum
.44-40
10mm

.22-250
.300 Weatherby
.30-30 Winchester

In the past I have loaded:

.45 super
.460 Rowland
.38 Special
.357 magnum

my sons reload:

.338 Winchester Magnum
.30-06
.45-70 Gov.
.454 Casul
.223

We get bullets in bulk that can be used in the .300 Weatherby and .30-06 and .22-250 and .223. Same with primers and powder depending on loads. I tend to run light bullets in the .22-250 and heavier ones in the .300 although he does in the .30-06 as well.

It isn't an argument against it, either. Range time and training is needed. That is why people buy ammo in bulk. 300 rounds with my .45, about that with a 9mm and another 200 with my .380 and 50 with the .44 and 100 with the 10mm is a simple outing for me. Ammo and reloading supplies are dramatically cheaper in bulk. That doesn't even count .22 LR.

Your reading comprehension is pretty bad then. I not only quoted, but also linked the Florida Dept of Corrections which had the statistics related to the 10-20-life law. This 90 miles from me.

But I will post it for you again.

http://www.dc.state.fl.us/oth/10-20-life/

I posted this in a separate link also. Ga has a similar law. While the guy in the "Stick Up" will be charged with armed robbery, a stick can't discharge.

I wasn't asked a question. I merely commented on your anomaly error. Go back and read it. Plus, I know it is a figure of speech, but it is actually wrong.

However, if criminals discharge a gun in the commission of a felony, it is 20 years mandatory on top of everything and if someone is injured, 25 to life. The 10 years is for the use of a gun, whether empty, non functioning, fake, or functional. It has been credited with driving down violent crime rates by 30%.

Florida 10-20-LIFE -- Mandatory Minimum Prison Sentences

QuoteQuote:

10-20-LIFE

Poster is available in English and Spanish versions and can be ordered online.

  • Mandates a minimum 10 year prison term for certain felonies, or attempted felonies in which the offender possesses a firearm or destructive device

  • Mandates a minimum 20 year prison term when the firearm is discharged

  • Mandates a minimum 25 years to LIFE if someone is injured or killed

  • Mandates a minimum 3 year prison term for possession of a firearm by a felon

  • Mandates that the minimum prison term is to be served consecutively to any other term of imprisonment imposed

QuoteQuote:

The results under 10-20-LIFE are impressive. In only six years, from 1998-2004, 10-20-LIFE has helped drive down violent gun crime rates 30 percent statewide (see Firearm Involved Violent Crimes). During the 10-20-LIFE era, armed criminals robbed a total of 10,567 fewer people and killed a total 380 fewer than they would have if these crime numbers had remained at 1998 levels. These crime decreases occurred even as Florida's population increased over 2.5 million (16.8 percent) between 1998 and 2004. Punishing criminals who use guns is making our state safer.

This has nothing to do with FLorida 776.013

The "Hoax" gun law is newer.

Appeals court judges ruled last year that a toy gun is not a weapon. However, these Cafe bandits had a real gun, so the point will be moot for them.

No, they are robberies that happen. Clerks getting shot or stabbed are not anomalies. If you think they are anomalies, you are out of touch with reality.

If Florida, it doesn't matter if their gun was loaded, inoperable or fake, the penalty is the same and it doesn't protect them from getting shot in the commission of a felony by a civilian or police.

You truly never understood the Rambo: First Blood, the first movie. He didn't start anything and only retaliated after being seriously pushed. Plus, there was only 1 killed in that movie, the sociopath bully deputy that started the whole mess.

Back to the topic, if you wait to find out if the crook is going to shoot you, it may very well be too late. If you are going to wait and see if he takes a bat up the side of your wife's head it may be too late. There are scores of examples in Florida the past couple of years where just that happened.

You were answered. Initial studies were conducted before and during the drafting of 776.03.

As far as after the fact, there were some assessments by a criminologist and a state attorney.

QuoteQuote:

Gary Kleck, a professor of criminology at Florida State University, has researched how the FBI and police departments define justifiable homicide.Criminologists are suspicious of sharp swings in a short time frame, he said.
“I don’t believe anything triples.…Increases that sharp are probably due to some artificial cause like a shift in how people are defining events,”

QuoteQuote:

Bill Eddins, state attorney in Florida’s 1st Circuit and president of the Florida Prosecuting Attorneys Association, said he couldn’t conclude if there is a correlation between the “stand your ground” law and the increase in justifiable homicides.Although the overall crime rate has trended downward, “the random violence seems to be increasing to me,” Eddins said.
To determine the effect of the “stand your ground” law would require examining how many times the statute was used, the result of the case and whether or not the “stand your ground” statute contributed to that resolution, he said.
“There is no real measurement set up to do that at this point. I cannot reach the conclusion that there is a direct correlation in the increases of justifiable homicide as a result of stand your ground law. I know other people are saying you can, but I can’t reach it.”

Of course you jumped on the 200% jive when the paraphrased Smith even though the FDLE numbers include all justifiable homicides. If you look, police justifiable homicide numbers went up even more and 776.013 had nothing to do with those numbers.

Furthermore, this case has no grounds for ranting about 776.013 unless you think Mr. Williams should be arrested. There is clearly no probable cause to do so.

Studies led to the drafting of the bill that became Florida 776.013. However, gun banners tend to leave out the cases that more often than not show that overall 776.013 works. For the n-th time, only (3) is related to SYG and the list of numbers used to determine that Sen Chris Smith was speaking in half truths with his percentages are ALL justifiable homicides and not just ones under syg and not just by firearms.

For example in 2010, 40 homicides by civilians were ruled justifiable. Not all those were SYG cases. Same thing for the 56 justifiable homicides by police.

Considering that Chris Smith is a State Senator using have truths and spin to advance an agenda here in Florida, I will call bull sh. on it to his face. Plus, one more time, all those FDLE numbers in the list were not by a gun. That Miami paper leans towards gun control and that is also close to his district so that is fairly significant.

They called it a half truth.

We rate this statement Half True.

200% looks more shocking than saying an increase of 18 to 42 (by civilians) 2005 compared to 2007. There is no clear cause linked to the increase as per the criminologists and FDLE. Plus, police justifiable homicides were up even more than civilians.

You conveniently left out the last sentence of the passage which completely changed the context. You quoted the part where they were paraphrasing Sen Chris Smith.

You kind of missed the point of the article. Senator Smith's comments were stated to by a half truth. Plus, its the percentage game. Plus, for the n-th time, SYG isn't only about firearms. Several of the cases have involved, scissors, knives, ice picks and other things. Those numbers are ALL homicides and not just those with firearms. The case about the clerks is showing someone either being killed or injured by criminals or someone defending themselves. Nowhere did I link those to Florida 776.013 (which is more than just SYG btw). What you want is everyone to be arrested when the justifiably defend themselves, post bond, hire a lawyer and hope they aren't dealing with an overzealous Witch like Angela Corey. Sometimes shes right but she doesn't care when she screws someone over as long as she gets a W and a feather.

What folks like you fail to recognize is that under 776.013 people can be arrested with probably cause and it occurs quite often. If there is a problem, it is the same problem we have with many laws and that is how a Judge rules.

Non the less, in many many cases people were still arrested which requires money and legal fees. As far as the synonyms go, bite me, spell check isn't perfect and its a forum not a publication which are supposed to be italicized or underlined by the way. ;)

#1 It is unlikely the law had any effect on the outcome of the Martin shooting. #2 The Orlando Sentinel (notice it is in italics?) is a very leans heavily to the gun control lobby. There have been several cases in central Florida that didn't envolve firearms like the icepick case in Tampa. Plus, the law doesn't deal only with firearms as weapons. It includes fists and feet. If you want to get back to legal precedents, look into disparity of force. If you attack me with your fists in an attempt to kill me, I don't have to defend myself with fists. I can stop you with any means necessary. Since you dragged Trayvon Martin into this, he was into mixed martial arts fighting. I brought this up before, defending ones life isn't some boxing match with Queensberry Rules.

Several local professors of criminology at FSU have already called B.S. on articles that cherry pick like The Orlando Sentinel.

http://www.miamiherald.com/2012/03/31/2725389_p2/myth-and-reality-of-stand-your.html

This article also show actual FDLE numbers for both civilian and police and not silly % and double, triple comments.
