This isn't the only FL club listed on the index. There is even an aperture based club.

No, like I told Smithee on my last post in this thread, this is the area where this FL excels.

Smithee, nice work on those. That is where I think the 135mm excels.

Douglas, In addition to the history you just summarized, I think that the 135mm focal length was one of the easier designs to get optically correct for the 135 format especially before the computer lens designing era. As far as I know the, Tamron 135mm Adapt-A-Matic was the last non-computer designed 135mm lens.

Is this the late version of the Super Tak with the 4/4 arrangement or the earlier 4/5 version?

I have a pre-set 135mm Tak which is supposedly the same optically as the m37. There is an m37 for sale in Ireland for ~$75 but I have decided it is essentially the same as the one I have. I also have a Tamron Adapt-a-Matic 135mm f2.8.

The Auto Takumar's actually pre-date the Super Taks although production of some of them overlapped for a few years. The Auto Taks have a semi-automatic diaphragm for operation on the Pentax K and S3 and newer cameras. There was one of the later Auto Tak 55mm f1.8 that actually had a diaphragm like the Super Taks but that is an exception. They are relatively compact lenses only rivaled by the pre-set Taks in that regard.
Here is some info on the pre-set (including m37) and auto-taks. Early Pentax Takumar Lenses |

My main use of these when I first got them was portraits. I got the 1st copy around late '86 or early '97. I liked for that and got last one a couple of years later when I saw it on clearance sale. This is from a negative scan from about 1988 on ASA 100 film. I think it was with a k1000 body but may have been the SuperProgram or Chinon CP-7m. I think the non-macro ring version of this lens may have been made by a Japanese firm. There were m42 versions without the macro ring as well. |

I think the f conversion is more of an issue when talking about for example 6x7 and 135 or 135 and 110 lenses.
When I put the FA 50mm f1.4 on my MZ-3 and open to f1.4, it reads f1.4 in the finder and lcd. When I put it on the K20d, it reads f1.4 as well. These are k-mount lenses where as the 110 and 6x7 in my above sentence are not.

For longer and faster than a 135mm f2.8, I have the Tammy 180mm f2.5 SP. :p At the time I couldn't afford any A* glass . . .actually it is still a challenge.

These spider images I posted a couple of pages back were taken with this very Sears lens. https://www.pentaxforums.com/forums/1025686-post96.html
The lens was not on a macro setting. I bought a couple of these new in the late 80s. I have heard that some people use the Macro feature as a "soft focus" setting for portraits.

Good grief what a club . . . I will go bonkers figuring where to start.
Preset Takumar
Super Tak
Tamron 135mm f2.8 adapt-a-matic
Focal 135mm f2.8 k-mount
Sears 135mm f2.8 PK/R (we won't get into other "mounts" . . . . :p)
This will need to be added to category 2 or 3 in the Lens Club Index by one of the mods.
Edit: Now in Index
