DA 55-300mm F4-5.8 ED double lines

Something is wrong with that lens. Like an element inside the lens might be loose or something. I don't think AF fine tune would do anything here either.

I'll usually wait a while before I do it. I do this with all electronics in general. You never know.

Production of black Pentax K-3 Mark III stopped???!!!

The K-3III is pretty good as it is, but if they did the following:
  • Both SD card slots UHS-II

  • Increase buffer size/speed

  • Add some kind tilt screen for the sake of more sales (though I'm perfectly fine with non-movable LCD screens)

  • Add some kind of AF auto fine tune

  • Give it usable Panasonic DFD like AF.C in live view (both camera & lens follows the subject, not just the camera)

This would make the K-3IV amazing.

It would be pretty cool for Ricoh to do a similar K-3III to K-3IV upgrade like they did with the K-1 to K-1II.

^ Yeap. A lot of business are heading in that direction.

Number 2 is funny. They're going to stick it to Affinity by sticking it to themselves. Hahaha! :p

Once I started using RawTherapee, I never looked back. That was 9 years ago.

This. I see it coming as well. It seems like in general, a lot of apps, software, whatever you want to call them, are heading towards a subscription direction. I'm surprised that Microsoft hasn't done that with Windows yet...... Though they still manage to screw us over in other ways. Hahaha! :p

I'd also suggest renting a fast zoom. Something like the Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8 S lens. Might be a bit on the heavy side, though.

There's also the lighter Nikkor 24-70mm f/4 S lens, but it's a bit slower.

I fall into the category of "I won't buy it no matter the cost."

But! I do hope that it sells well & those who end up buying one, enjoy it a lot. :D

Indeed!

This currently is the least expensive all-weather setup at $599 with DA L 18-55mm & DA L 50-200mm lenses. Beats the hell out of me why the 2 kit lens cost less than the body alone ($650). Even the body with DA L 18-55mm lens costs more ($750).

Probably the next least expensive all-weather setup at $797.

These are ready to shoot out in the rain, snow, and/or dust storm.

I know what you mean about the heft & bulk. About a month ago I took the K-3II, D-BG5 grip, & the DA* 16-50mm PLM to Disneyland & carried it all for about 16 hours straight. I have bigger biceps now. Hahaha! :p

It was worth it, though.

I can only imagine what it would be like to carry around a K-1II, D-BG6 grip, & D FA* 70-200mm f/2.8 for 16 hours straight.

I've been spoiled by the DA* lenses. I only have the latest 2. They have some insanely good image quality. If Ricoh had already revamped the DA* 50-135mm f/2.8, the DA* 60-250mm f/4, & the rest of the DA* lineup, I would've already bought them by now. The DA* 16-50mm f/2.8 PLM gets used the most on my K-3II, but it does get switched out with the DA* 11-18mm from time to time.

I like my SMC DA Limited primes as well. I mainly use them on the K-50. It's usually for slow take my time photography that involves static subjects. There's a certain a "je ne sais quoi" about those lenses, but the 2 that I use the most are the 21mm & the 70mm. The 21mm practically lives on the K-50.

SMC DA Limited 15mm f/4. Very nice. Same with the SMC DA Limited 21mm f/3.2.

I imaginge that DFA 21mm f/2.8 is still better optically.

The only way I buy used is if the item is at least 20% less than the cost of new when it's on sale & it's also in excellent condition.

In example, an item that normally sells for $1,200 goes on sale for $1,000. That means that I'd pay no more than $800 used for it. Quite often I see used items selling too close to the cost of new. Not much of an incentive. I'd rather pay a little more to get it new.

Nay! Although I do have fond memories of shooting film, once I went digital in 2005 & saw how much easier everything was, I made up my mind that I would be going digital from there on out & never shoot film again. I am happy that film still exists & that people are happy shooting it. I do enjoy seeing their photos, but film is not for me. :p

MAJOR UPDATE!

This is a major update. You will need to have RawTherapee 5.10 installed in your system by getting it directly from their website, updating your Linux distribution, or by downloading a Windows 64bit version from my Google Drive. These PP3 files are meant to be used with RawTherapee 5.10 or later. Some of the PP3 files will not work with version 5.9 or earlier (unless you have an older dev version that has the new compatibility enhancements).

I strongly suggest that you remove all RawTherapee versions before installing 5.10. Do backup your old PP3 files & any other settings like dynamicprofile.cfg that you want to save, just in case.

With that being said, there is now more compatibility between Windows & Linux than ever before. My guess is that Mac OS is the same. Sorry, not a Mac user myself. The installation instructions are in the zip file. In a nutshell, you will have to now make a folder/directory for the .dcp files & point to it in RawTherapee. Here's the quick method for that.
  • Copy the Camera profiles directory to wherever you please.

  • Open up RawTherapee, go to Preferences > Image Processing & scroll down to Camera profiles directory.

  • Point it that to the Camera profiles directory you just copied into your system.

This is for all Windows, Linux, & Mac OS installations. If not, the PP3 files that utilize the .dcp files will not work at all.

For those of you that own a K-01, K-30, K-50, K-500, K-5, K-5II, K-5IIs, K-3, & K-3II, you're in for a treat. I'm now very close to the Pentax color science when using Natural, Bright, Landscape, & Vibrant. Portrait is still weird. If you compare the RawTherapee outputs to DCU5 outputs, you'll see that it's almost dead on in terms of color science. I'd say that it's about 98% close to the Pentax color science, compared to what I would consider 85% close previously. Portrait is like 2% close to Pentax color science. I don't think Adobe ever nailed it. I also have some PP3 color files that utilize the Tone Equalizer module as well.

For you 16MP owners, use the K-50 color profiles. For those of you using the 24MP K-3 cameras, use the K-3II profiles. Mind you that I'm not using D-range settings. If you use D-range settings, you'll probably be disappointed with the exposure, contrast, brightness, & color in many images. I'll eventually get to the rest of the cameras, but since I own a K-50 & a K-3II, those get most of my attention.

OK! Remember to backup your old PP3 files & anything else that you might want to save before deleting them. Here are the links.
