Very wise decision. Next year is only a month & a few days away. Then CP+ will arrive at the end of Februeary. Ricoh will probably reveal their "playing cards" around then. Like they say, "Good things come to those who wait." :D

Can't go wrong with that. You'll possibly get a very amazing APS-C flagship camera next year or get the KP even cheaper than it is now sometime in 2019.
Or if push came to shove, you could always go for a different camera from a different manufacturer sometime next year & adapt your lenses to it. :D

I don't think it's going to sell for that much, but I could be wrong. If it has the AF performance similar to the D500 & 7D Mark II, I bet several users would buy it. There would probably be a shortage of the DA 55-300mm PLM lens shortly after. :p
I'd take the trade off. I prefer a photo that's dead sharp with some very minor degradation than an out-of-focus photo that has no degradation. If the K-3II successor doesn't have much improved AF, I'll be moving on to mirrorless.

Indeed! I think Ricoh is going to go for the gold & probably get some new users too.
I would love to get some updated DA* lenses. I'll definitely be getting that DA* 11-18mm lens if I get the new APS-C flagship. :D

This sounds very exciting if they do apply this technology. Been reading up on that patent. Hopefully 2019 will be the year for Pentax.

At least 50% of the posters on that thread wanted to know what was going on with the K-3II replacement. According to the prior CP+ interview, it's coming. We just don't know when. My guess is that it might appear around the same time that the DA* 11-18mm f/2.8 lens is released, but then again, this is Ricoh we're talking about here. Hahaha! :p

Yup. The next event is CP+ 2019. I guess we'll see what Ricoh has been up to then.

Saw that. Unless it has D5 or EOS-1D X Mark II type of AF performance, I really wouldn't be too interested. Yes. I'd be willing to pay a lot more for that type of AF, but with IBIS as a bonus. I guess we'll see.

It seems that lately every new Pentax camera seems to exceed previous ones in some aspects, but not all. The one area where I hope it completely exceeds the K-1II is AF performance. Better AF.S accuracy plus much better & more precise AF.C performance to put that DA 55-300mm PLM to use.
However, on the IQ front, the K-1/1II will still remain the IQ champ when it comes to ultimate image quality. No matter how you slice & dice it, the K-1/1II will remain the king of IQ in the Pentax lineup. It's physics. :p

^ Better AF, IBIS, battery life, weather sealing, possibly better WIFI/NFC connection, & better IQ. Plus other new features that we might not even be thinking about like a possibility of auto AF tune & stuff like that.

I just read a bit about the Fujifilm XT3. It seems like the AF performance is going to be amazing. Some are claiming almost Nikon D500 like, but I think that might be a bit exaggerated. Fujifilm is definitely heading in the right direction in terms of AF performance. I'm not a big fan of the X-Trans sensor, though. Lack of IBIS doesn't help much either.
With almost everyone else making greater leaps in AF performance, it makes me wonder what Ricoh will be doing with the AF performance in K-3II replacement. Just imagine getting AF performance very similar to the Nikon D7500, but with a screw drive lens. Now imagine that same AF performance, but with the faster focusing DA 55-300mm PLM instead. Ricoh has the potential to steal the DSLR show this year or the next.

It would be totally funny if it ended up being some kind of lower end DSLR body . :p

I've used the K-3II with the 55-300mm PLM. It's a very nice combo, but compared to the D7200 with a similar lens, the AF sensor in the K-3II can't seem to keep up or figure out with what's going on in front of the lens. I tried all kinds of camera settings too. The D7200 has a 3d type of tracking through the viewfinder that the K-3II doesn't have as well. If Ricoh can implement better AF technology in the new flagship, that 55-300mm PLM would fly on it more accurately. That 55-300mm also flies on my K-50, but the AF performance is worse in that body. It'll miss focus a lot more than on the K-3II, even when using single point.

I highly doubt that Ricoh will have anything remotely close to the AF of the D500 or the 7D Mark II. I would actually be surprised if Ricoh could even give us AF performance that's close to what the "old" Nikon D7200 could do, let alone what the recent D7500 can do too. I'd be thrilled with that kind of AF performance in the next APS-C flagship. I would REALLY love for Ricoh to prove me wrong about the AF performance by them delivering some insanely good & very capable AF technology, though. I have money burning in my pocket too. :p

Nothing so far. To add to the confusion, they have also stated in different interviews that it will be a continuation of the K-3 line and/or a new line of APS-C flagship . Hahaha! Doesn't help much, does it? :D
They are working on it, but they're very tight lipped about it. We probably won't know anything until a few days before release, whenever that comes. I'm pretty sure that a couple of individuals on this forum have some info, but the NDA force seems to be strong in the Ricoh/Pentax empire. :p

The K-3II replacement has been confirmed & it will eventually head our way. Ricoh is currently working on it. You can see the Imaging-Resource interview, DPReview interview, & the Pentax Forums interview.
The only unknown variable is the release date. Some think it will be released around the time of the DA* 11-18mm f/2.8 lens release sometime next year. A few think that we won't see anything until 2020. A hopeful few think that we'll see something around September this year. No one really knows when.

Who knows, but some users are getting desperate & some of them are starting to flock to other brands. There is no official release date, but we're all kind of guesstimating that it could be sometime next year. It could be around the time of the Pentax DA* 11-18mm f/2.8 lens release, but we still don't know. I've been waiting since the fall of 2016 for that camera, but what's another year? "Good things come to those who wait", but one's patience can only be tested for so long. Hahaha! :p

I've only seen 3 other Pentax shooters so far. Two of them in the USA & one in Japan. :p

Well, Fujifilm just released their new X-H1 APS-C flagship. Has 5-axis IBIS & 4K video. The competition is getting furious. As it is, Olympus, Pansonic, & Sony also have some very nice cameras at the moment with 5-axis IBIS, excellent AF, & excellent video capabilities. There's a lot of competition going on.
With so many advancements in the mirrorless world, how will Ricoh respond with the K-3II replacement?

After seeing the "leaked" K-1II specifications, I now wonder how much effort they will put on the K-3II replacement. I guess only time will tell.
There are some exciting cameras coming out soon & if Ricoh wants Pentax to be relevant, they really need to make that K-3II replacement very desirable.
I'm on the edge of my chair right now. Hahaha! :p

I strongly believe that 2018 will be the year that makes or breaks Pentax. A lot of people are waiting to see what Ricoh has up their sleeve. Hopefully Ricoh answers back with some excellence & win.
One thing is for sure. They need to deliver some goods this year to keep the some of the user base happy or reassure the user base that they are definitely working on projects that will appear late 2018 or sometime in 2019. Some of the user base is beginning to have doubts about the brand & is starting to run out of patience. Some have already jumped ship to other brands & more will follow soon if Ricoh remains silent.
