Cool shot John. I can almost recognize your signature shots without looking at the byline.
Cheers.

(x - posted) Hostas always make for a compelling subject in black and white. ---------- Post added 01-09-16 at 11:37 PM ---------- (x - posted) This red rose turned really dark with the use of a blue digital filter. Taken with my favorite semi-wide K 35mm/f3.5 wide open at close to MFD. |

Nice! Send it my way when you get tired of that lens :D:D:D
(x - posted) Took out the SMC DA 15mm Limited for a test drive. Wanted to test its flare resistance and it didn't disappoint. |

Someone identified this for me as Centaurea macrocephala. In short, the giant knapweed, which providentially is not invasive like the other species of knapweeds.

The bicycle outlined against that lake certainly adds a strong element to your composition. Nice shot!

It was a late afternoon stroll through the streets of downtown Victoria during my December 2014 holidays there. I could not help but notice the shadows of a bare deciduous tree on the left and an evergreen tree on the right falling eerily on the east wing of the BC Parliament Buildings. Thanks to the shadow of tree on the right falling on the building, my alliteration is complete: Building, Branches, and "Bats".

This is one spot in downtown Vancouver that I fell in love with the first time I visited this place in April 1986: the end of False Creek where the Telus World of Science is located. The Buckminster-Fuller-inspired geodesic dome was constructed for the World Expo 86 during which it served as the Expo Centre. It is a lovely location for picture taking especially late in the afternoon when the setting sun illuminates the structures. (I have a colour version of this but I find the colours too distracting for the purpose of this photo.)
Those condo high-rises behind the dome are sitting on some of the most precious pieces of land in the world. A smallish three-bedroom unit will easily set you back by more than a Cdn $1.5M. But with the Canadian loonie in a tailspin because of lower price for oil, that amount is still a bargain. Lately, Vancouver properties have become even more attractive to wealthy overseas investors from the Pacific Rim nations. Great for the real estate industry here but sad for the locals who are increasingly priced out of the market.

Hello Hattifnatt,
I think your shark ate the cactus I posted in the prior page. :D:D:D

The delicate texture of the petals, especially the one in focus, reminds of a filigree. Well captured!

Thanks Vincent for telling me the "secret recipe". This is one more argument for me to upgrade to Lightroom. There is so much more it can do.

Hi Vincent,
This is so pleasing in a very understated way. Do you use Lightroom or Photoshop? I cannot come close to this and your other monochromes using Elements 8.

Charlie

Went to Brownsville Bar Park directly below the bridge and waited till after sunset to capture this. The SkyTrain came out as a streak of light using a 6-sec exposure. |

The repeating patterns and subtle shadows in this cactus caught my eyes. Not until I viewed this in my monitor did I realize how speckled the leaves were. Took this with the Tokina 90mm f/2.5, aka Bokina, at its smallest aperture of f/32 to get the most DOF.
