Been awhile since I posted something here. Recovering from tendinitis in right elbow, so the K-1II/DFA150-450 stayed home and the K-3II & DA 55-300 PLM went for a walk. Had forgotten nice ASP-C gear is to carry and how great the photos turn out. Photos posted elsewhere. |

Really wanted to go light today with no extra lens, the 20-40 seemed to be good choice. Hadn't had it out for a while, forgot how light and easy it is to carry. Other than wishing for more range a few times, glad I took it.

The thing about wood ducks is that they perch in trees, have very sharp eyesight, very wary and are fond thick brushy cover. Though a longer lens would be help at times, usually your only shot is close in because of the brushy environment they live in. The challenge if well worth it to see such a beautiful duck close up.

Thanks,
The one in the foreground is Opus a Citron/Bareeyed cockatoo (hybrid) - very intelligent, he starting talk at 4 months (10yrs old now) and hasn't stopped learning since. And yes Rosie is Goffin's, 9yrs old, very lovable, also talks, definitely the dominate of the two.
Sorry you had to let your Goffin's go, they do become very attached. Though there was a rough period of time a couple years ago with Opus (adolescence) we got through it with lots of patience.....and bandages :hmm:
Couldn't think of life without them :)

There's a pair of redtail hawks getting ready to nest on one of the neighboring highrises (they have for the last 3 years) just happened to be in the right place at the right time, but with the wrong lens & ISO setting......
Was experimenting taking pictures of the sunset & Mt Hood with my new DA 20-40 Ltd with a CPL on it, when the hawk pair flew by, had no time to make adjustments. Still didn't turn out too bad for being out-of-the camera JPEG.

Thanks
Got Lightroom 5 in a couple weeks ago, but it doesn't run on Vista (the computer been nearly trouble free for 7 yrs, why change) so now I had a excuse to order a new laptop, which has among other cool features, a 4K Ultra HD 15" screen :D
It'll be here in a week or so. Been using the RAW+ option, so have saved the RAW files to do PP when I'm set up for it. Have been working with SilkyPix with some success, hoping Lightroom is a lot better.

stalk slow & smooth :D
Serious though, the hummingbird was a suprise. Stopped by my parents to visit, bring them their paper, heard a familar buzz as I passed the feeder and seen her (my dad says it's the female) land in a nearby bush. So I put my coffee in my left hand, got the camera up (one handed) and slowly walked towards her at 3ft took 6 quick pics before she flew - 4 came out good. The squirrel has just gotten used to me sneaking up on him and he was hungry. My parents have a beautiful place, we had moved there in 1966 and they still have 11 acres, mostly forest. I'm fortunate to have it as a place to visit and wander.
