mhoule418 – Many thanks for the photo. Apparently the leg of my spring bent and it was bent in such a way that it looked purposeful. Once I straightened it out as your photo showed, it all worked a treat. catfishjohn – Maybe there should be a preload on the spring, but it is all I can do with my fat old fingers and my trifocal eyes to get the spring in place. However it seems to have enough load to open (if not pop) the door.
My next step is to put the camera back together – all 21 little teeny-tiny screws.

I am (foolishly?) trying to replace the SD card door on my K-5iis. For whatever reason, the plastic door broke in two and I actually found one at a place called U.S. Camera. SITUATION: The door is spring-loaded with a simple coil spring. The spring slides over the rod that is the hinge for the door mechanism. Both ends of the spring are extended (one a short bit, the other much longer) so that the spring tightens a bit when the door is closed and springs the door open when it is released. PROBLEM: I cannot manage to get this spring to seat correctly. No, I did not take a picture ahead of time – it's just a spring, right? :o NEED: I would like someone to be so kind as to take a picture of the SD card door with the spring in position so I can use it as a guide.
If you can help with my small dilemma, either post the photo to this thread or send it to me. I will be incredibly grateful.
Many thanks,
Don P.S. I have a camera with the case disassembled. Once I get the door properly installed, my next trick will be re-assembling the case – there are 21 very tiny little screws of 4 different lengths. Fun!
