Thanks for the images.

It looks as if we have yet another variant!

I have added it to the database page.

@jbinpg

No, your lens is the most recent model of the Super-Takumar 55mm F1.8. The interim model had fine ribs and no knurls on the aperture ring.

@.a.t

Thanks for the excellent images, they will soon be put to good use.

In the notes on variants I have listed the lenses in the order of their release per the data I had at the time of creating the entries. Granted, those dates are somewhat uncertain in that my various sources disagree and I have to decide which one to trust the most!

150 cm is the correct number. I have corrected the database. Thanks!

Until someone tells me otherwise I will classify this as the late version of model one. The reason is that the aperture ring is of the later variety with coarse knurls.

The optics are supposedly the same throughout, 6 elements in 5 groups. There could of course have been minor tweaks to lens element curvature and glass composition which doesn't show on the lens diagrams.

Soft images: I have no idea what the upload software does. The lens pictures for the collage were first downsized in photoshop. Then the collage was probably downsized when uploaded. The images in the backend database (to which user access is still not directly available) are of the size you submitted.

The original collage is here, looks better than the attachment above if you enlarge it to 100%.

Would appear that there are three, not two variants of the 55mm F1.8 Super Tak:

Early: Steve's, fine ribs, dot, apertures go 1.8 2 2.8 4 ... 16
Mid: Mock's, fine ribs, diamond, apertures go 16 ... 4 2.8 2 1.8
Late: Mark Hoffman's, coarse ribs, diamond, apertures go 16 ... 4 2.8 1.8

Steve and Mock, do your lenses have the product number stamped somewhere, if so, what's the number?

This is unfortunately not not the early version. The early version has fine ribs on the aperture ring.

However, you images supplements the one I have so all is not lost could I only download and use the images. Photobucket must do something to the JPG file which renders the downloaded file corrupt per Photoshop CC 2015.

The 6.1) Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 35mm F3.5 [43572] is covered now, but we still need the 11) Super Takumar 55mm F2 model 1 early [345-1 or 345-3]

Thanks,

Not all Takumars have the product number stamped on the A/M switch. The reverse aperture ring is the giveaway that you're looking at the right lens.

In reviewing our Takumar M42 lens database it turns out that we have no product photos of the lenses mentioned below so if you own one or more of these we'd appreciate a product photo, 1200px on the longest side.

To make identification easier we have included the product number in [...]. On most M42 lenses the product number is stamped on the backside of the A/M switch.

First priority is to get a photo that presents the lens well like these:

Not this small, of course. 1200 pixels on the longest side would be a good size.

The background should be white or light grey so that it is easy to photoshop into a transparent background.

If you have the time and patience we would also like a photo directly from the front showing the engraved name and for Super Takumars and newer, an image that shows the mount. This last request is so that we can document if the lens has open aperture metering or not.

Please post your images and supplementing lens information (if any) in this thread.

Thanks in advance.

Here is the list of M42 Takumar lenses where we need product photos:

1) Fish-Eye-Takumar 17mm F11 [356 or 43560]
This lens produces a circular image.

2) Super Takumar 28mm F3.5 (model 1 late) [43481]
The variant we are looking for has a 58mm filter diameter, goes to F16 (not F22) and coarse ribs on the aperture ring.

3) Super Takumar 35mm F2 model 1 early [368]

4) Super Takumar 35mm F2 model 1 late [43680] -- there is some uncertainy whether denik's lens is this one or the early one above. Anyone in the know?

5) Super Takumar 35mm F3.5 1st variant, which goes to F22 [357]

6) Super Takumar 35mm F3.5 3rd variant, which has a distance scale "window" [43571]

6.1) Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 35mm F3.5 [43572]

7) Super-Multi-Coated Macro Takumar 50mm F4 (with open-aperture metering) [43912]

8) Takumar 55mm F1.8, the model with pre-set aperture [unknown product number]

9) Super Takumar 55mm F1.8 early [345-2, 345-5, 33450, or 34520]
This version has fine ribs on aperture ring

10) Super Takumar 55mm F1.8 late [371, 37100, or 37101]
This version has coarse ribs on aperture ring

11) Super Takumar 55mm F2 version 1 [345-1 or 345-3]
This version has fine ribs on aperture ring and the aperture ring goes the "wrong" way (with F2 position to the left)

12) Super Takumar 55mm F2 version 2 late [37102, 37103]
This version has coarse ribs on aperture ring and does not support open aperture metering

13) Super Takumar 55mm F2 version 3 [37107]
It has coarse ribs on aperture ring and it supports open aperture metering

14) SMC Takumar 55mm F2 (rubberized focusing ring) [37109]

15) Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 85mm F1.8 [43832]

16) Super-Takumar 85mm F1.9, early, stops down to F22 [364?]

17) Super-Takumar 85mm F1.9, late, stops down to F16 [43640?]

18) Takumar 105mm F2.8, model 2 [349 or 43490]
This is the version with 5 elements, preset aperture, all black

19) Super-Takumar 105mm F2.8, early [350 or 43500]
Fine ribs on aperture ring

20) Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 105mm F2.8 [43502]

21) Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 135mm F2.5 model 1 (5 lens elements) [43802]

22) Super-Multi-Coated Takumar 135mm F2.5 model 2 (6 lens elements) [43812]

23) Auto-Takumar 135mm F3.5 [343]

24) Super-Takumar 135mm F3.5 model 1 [354 or 43540]
Fine ribs on aperture ring

25) Super-Takumar 150mm F4, early [374 or 43740]

26) Super-Takumar 150mm F4, late [43741]

27) Super-Takumar 200mm F4 [376, 376000, 43760, or 43761]

28) Tele-Takumar 400mm F5.6 [370 or 43700]

29) Tele-Takumar 400mm F5 [product number unknown]
This is the early model which has the aperture ring closer to the lens mount than the late model

30) Takumar 500mm F4.5 [366 or 43660]

31) Takumar 1000mm F8 [334 or 43340]

32) Tele-Takumar 1000mm F8

Quite a list! Thanks in advance for your help!
