Thanks for your opinions :) Last time I had a slr (Nikon d50) most of the pictures I took were with an old manual 50mm f/1.4 lens I found in a friends closet that they let me use, and most of the time I had it it was set between f/2.8 and f/1.4, so I probably will be better off with the 50mm f/1.4. The only thing is, I wish it had a wider field of view, but I'm not sure if the 35mm is worth the extra $100 and half a stop. The 43mm limited also looks nice, but is out of my price range :(

I'm planning on getting a k100d super soon, and want a fast normal or mild telephoto prime, and currently am looking at the 40mm pancake and the 50mm f/1.4. I like the focal length, compactness, and metal construction (as I tend to just toss stuff into my backpack) of the 40mm, but I really like the price and aperture of the 50mm. Anyhow, my question is, how much difference does the metal construction and size of the 40mm pancake make in reality, is it really that much smaller and durable than the 50mm?
