The future is clear: Nikon & Canon are going to introduce mirrorless systems and all their owners are going to see a drop of value of their DSLR equipment.
Ricoh Imaging said they will not make a full frame mirroless line, which means users can count on K mount for a while.
The long term is.... the long term, not sure how long term is being defined by companies these days, perhaps "long term" is an old concept that customers of ILC used to have, but at the speed at which Tamron, Sigma, Sony etc... are releasing new products, it now seems more like long term = 18 months. The equipment is so good now, that I think I'll get some refurbished DSLR tech for cheap, while other people are going to dump their money on the new mirrorless products for no difference in the final images.

The DA560 is a good idea because it corresponds very well to what's needed for static wildlife subjects. Lots of people say that the DA560 is too long, well, it not that long it's like any long lens like the 400 f2.8, 500 f4 and 600 f4, it's not the kind of lens for walking about, it's the kind of lens you mount on a gimbal anyway, and f5.6 3kg is about perfect for static subjects. But, I consider the DA560 as a failure because its price is too high. Since it is a telescope design with less glass elements and more flare, the lens should not be price higher than a telescope of the same quality, e.g $2000, but Ricoh sells it $4000. For $4K you get a Sigma 500 f4 and you can add a TC on it. Basically, people who want the long prime on their Pentax camera take the Sigma 500 f4.5, the DA560 not being competitive on price. ---------- Post added 27-04-17 at 20:48 ----------
Too expensive versus what you can get from Sigma.

Yes also. My point was to confirm your statement. I think, for large lenses used only occasionally, renting can be a good option (likely why there is a market for lensrental.com)

I do it and I don't complain. I don't know what you are referring to.

That's it. Anyway, due to seasonal birding (3 weeks per year between April and May) , it is not cost effective to own those lenses, there aren't convenient as walkaround lenses for everyday use.. In Hungary, you can rent long lenses for about 60 euros per day and enjoy the performance of a 600 f4 / 10000 euros (Canon) lens. On location , I can get a 1Dx + 600 f4 for no much more, why would anyone spend 15000 for using that gear 3 times a year.
