That, I'm aware, the K1 II doesn't disable the accelerator chip in crop mode, nor with DPS (DPS will proceed to democratizing of the 4 frames after the data have been processed by the accelerator, which is not logical). I have the K1 II, I like the color tweaks and that I don't have the shutter shock problem that I have with the K1, but IMO Ricoh didn't put much thinking into added the accelerator chip to the K1II, in fact the ISO threshold is the same as for the Kp, which also doesn't make sense.

I see your point. If I can share my experience, after using the K1 with battery grip and DFA150450, I've found that the 15Mpixels crops deliver about the same IQ as a K3 24Mp simply because dynamic shooting requires relatively fast shutter speed, hardware a case for low ISO, ISO is usually between 800 and 1600 when the 24Mpixel sensor lost more of its details. So I now have 1 x K1 and 1 x K1 mk II and no apsc (I sold all my apsc bodies and lenses).

I agree, it's a tradeoff. OTOH, when I am close enough to the subject (depending of the type on subject) I may even switch back the K1 from crop mode to FF mode so that detail+noise is a step better compared to a cropped frame, something that I wouldn't be able to do with a K3 or KP. So for me the K1 is the most versatile camera I ever had: great for landscape and people photos in FF mode, and can provide a boost in frame rate, reach and buffer depth when switched into crop mode. I've also asked about the D850 frame rate in crop mode, and was told that on the D850 there is no difference of frame rate between FF mode (7FPS) and crop mode (also 7FPS), making the K1 still look like a great value.

The answer to the question about "Why the black & white version of the DFA*85 and DFA70-200 f4 are delayed to 2020 or later?" is fairly complex to understand.

IMO, the aim of discontinuing the K3II is the avoid to have to write off too much asset from the balance sheet due to unsold stock of K3II. Ricoh sees the market with a wider angle lens than individual users. And so, they may have hurt some customers, but far from hurting all customers, by cutting short with the K3II too early. Releasing a GRIII after selling a lot of K1 DSLR systems, is a very logical step, especially knowing that the K1 in crop mode can shoot 50 raws @ 7FPS, and that the KP can also work for occasional wildlife shots. In fact the KP is better for long lenses than the K3II , and I'll tell you why: electronic shutter in ovf mode and gets sharper images thanks to the absence of vibrations... and the K3 CAN'T do that, the KP CAN! For shooting Kingfishers, I use the K1 in crop mode with EFCS because I get tack sharp images with the DFA150450 that I don't get with a K3 mechanical shutter or K1 mechanical shutter. So, for posed wildlife shots, the KP with EFCS + OVF is simply great. In short, KP EFCS @ 630mm (450mm x 1.5) gives tack sharp images, K3 and K3II can't do that, and the KP battery grip is excellent for using the KP with the DFA150450.

If someone really need a K3II, with a little search it is possible to find. A lot of people complaining but not ordering if we propose a K3II to them, which just confirm that Ricoh was right to discontinue the K3II.

Possibly. However, the Fedex, UPS and DHL are so fast nowadays that you can buy anything anywhere in EU and get it in 3 days, and if you pay 15 euros more you have have it delivered to your door the next day. So it shouldn't be a problem to get a new K3II.

No I don't. In Austria there is a stock of K3II for sale. And also on online sales available, just type "Pentax K3II" in google search engine and click "Shopping" tab (I can't post the links here, it is against forum rules, I think).

I'm afraid to disagree. There is still a lot of stock of K3 II: In Europe I can buy it anywhere. If you need them in the US, I'm sure there is a way to send you a few hundred (if not thousands) of K3II brand new.

Frame rate drops in AF tracking, so they aren't better FPS than a K3II.

The EOS R boast 2.5 frames per seconds. The Z series no much better. End of story.

Well, there is not successor to the 7Dii either... so I suppose a very large number of Canon customers should be complaining ? Canon made the EOS M series (not a sport line) and the 5DIV (not a sport line) and now the EOS R (not a sport line). How many year it took Nikon from the D300 to the D500 ? And how slow are the Z6 and Z7 compared to the D500 ?

The Pentax system lack education of its potential user base. Canon have less this problem because they educate they customers on how best use their products. It is a common problem of complex products that each have their own best way of being used, that's why most tech companies have experts who are responsible to educate customer so they can get the best our of products instead on complaining because they aren't actually using the product correctly. Fuji partner with pro photographers to organize workshops when customers are being let to know how to use the fuji camera the best possible way. Pentax doesn't do any of this, and so it is not surprising that the opinion on Pentax products is left to chance.

Something to keep in mind is that technological advances in cameras are being materialized at the time new camera flagship models are being released. So when the K1 was released, the D850 didn't exist, and so the K1 appeared competitive at its release time and 6 months afterward. Then the D850 was released it looked like the most advanced tech that every one must have, but soon was beaten by the Sony A9. So, as customers , if we don't want to spend our time and money constantly buying new equipment we need to smooth out our desires versus every better new tech. If not, you will spend very large amount of money for short time of satisfaction. It is understandable that Ricoh have to raise the bar of the next camera specs so that it doesn't look like DOA (dead on arrival) when it will be released, customers get attracted at the time of release when the specs look awesome, that's why camera companies concentrate most of the promotional effort before and after a flagship model is released. Also, customers don't buy all the time when they are satisfied with what they have. Typically, the majority of 5DIV owners aren't going to buy an EOS R any time soon while owners of a 5DII and 5DIII will for sure see advantages in buying an EOS R. For Pentax, the K1 and Kp aren't that old, many people owning a K1 or KP wouldn't buy a new camera if Ricoh would release it now. Every camera maker know when they sold the most of each of their models, so they schedule the introduction in new models accordingly.

Interestingly, apsc is the ideal format for everything that doesn't require enlargement beyond A2 or A1 max (so for magazines and home prints, apsc is enough) , full frame gets to A1 or A0 max enlargements, and medium format deliver commercial/ads size posters. So the former approach of Pentax apsc + meidum format and the approach of Fuji are the right approaches. But there is more money business to be made in full frame, so full frame gets the most R&D investments and technology improvements, and medium format is underdeveloped and overpriced IMO. Full frame makes perfect sense for sport photography where fast shutter speed needs high iso and still high frame rates, so , in essence only 1Dx / D5 types of cameras should be full frame.

Nowadays, the baseline for full frame is often 42 to 47 Mpixels with around 9 frames per second, and most new models feature 4K, Canon already talking about 8K vid. Most likely now Ricoh need to start with a new image processing plateform to cope with next generation video (4K, 8K), megapixels (50+ mega pixels) and frame rate (such as 10 FPS @ 50Mpixels to 20 FPS @ 25Mpixels frames). A couple of years ago, someone (beholder3, I think) had posted the tech inheritance path on Pentax camera models, basically, there was a new tech plateform out of which Pentax release a number of camera models. I would assume that Ricoh squeezed the most they could out of the old processing platform (milbau or something) and for the next level of performance & all working on a new processing platform requires a lot more engineering and testing than refactoring of new camera models based on the old image processing platform.

Negativity was the old fad. Now the new trend is meditation of happiness. Do they also have people like you at Canon or Fuji? Because honestly, it would be a relief not to see your comments anymore (warning :hmm:: humor  joke :D).
