Sorry, I don't know the Pentax line or its history as well as some here. What model IS that camera? Is it an older Pentax film camera?

p.s. I don't recall ever seeing a camera with the hot shoe off on the side of the body. Might not be a bad idea, actually....

I don't disagree with your point about the advantages of backwards compatibility, but Bob Atkins' comment (that nobody makes a body that can use all those old screw mount lenses) is not "misinformation". If you read that comment in its context, it was part of his argument that today's heavy investment in APS-C optimized lenses will NOT, in itself, prevent the market from moving to 36x24 or anything else. Technologies that people have invested heavily in have died before.

Well, there you go! I KNEW there had to be somebody else in the world using Pentax and Leaf Fan has found him. I just don't run into him because I live in Texas and he lives in Holland.

Mystery solved. Thread closed.

Thinking about Mike's good comments on why we are such a minority, at least here in the USA. I'm sure he's right about Pentax Japan ignoring us, and Pentax USA allowing that to continue. But I have a slightly different take, not on the causes, but on the nature of the problem.

As I see it, the problem isn't that Pentax is a minority. Apple is a TINY minority of the computer market. But Apple DOMINATES the computer "mindshare".

What Pentax needs is mindshare. I think, in this particular dimension of the marketing problem, Pentax is way behind nearly all of its competitors. Olympus and Panasonic get more attention than Pentax, in stores, in magazines. Heck, SAMSUNG has more mindshare right now than Pentax. And Pentax's attempts at mindshare are pathetic, indeed, I find them downright offensive. Releasing the K-x in different colors? Give me a break.

I'm sticking with Pentax for now mainly because it would cost me a lot of money to switch, because I'm not sure what I would switch TO—and because the people responsible for making the cameras and the lenses continue to do a great job. But the people running marketing for Pentax should all be shot, and then fired. And we should all pray that some of their zombie corpses get hired by Canon.

Yep. During my two-week vacation in Yellowstone National Park earlier this summer, I found myself in crowds of photographers more than once. I never saw a single Pentax product, not even a Pentax compact camera.
