Had an accident with my K-70 and my PLM. My buddy to whom I sold my old storm trooper K-50/SMC 55-300 has since bought a K1-II and he very nicely brought me the old camera and lens back to use while I wait on replacement body/lens (decided to go KP, in the end). K-50 still works fine.
This eagle pic was taken underway in a sailboat in moderate chop. It is about 30-40 meters up and 20-25 meters over (it's up on a bluff with 30 meters of water right next to shore, so you can just about touch the cliff safely). F9 and 1/800sec @ ISO 400 with the old DA SMC zoomed out to 300mm. Cropped about 2/3. This pushes the lens and sensor pretty far but this is still a quite acceptable result for such a setup and those conditions.

Agreed. In particular, the silver greys and blue greys of the color version.add much to the sky's drama IMO. Quick fiddling in GIMP only desaturating the land and leaving sky largely alone may be the best of both worlds. Or possibly slightly saturating the sky some in the BW version.

Very good combination of very plebian elements. Love the various contrasts including still vs. moving. Great pic.

K-70 and 55-300 PLM here. They seem a match made in heaven...
This wharfmate's boat is several hundred yards away when the sun suddenly breaks through the clouds and haze...
Note: The halyards are solid lines at full res.
These small boat fishermen are about 200 yards away on a dead calm Conception Bay off Harbour Main. The small automated lighthouse in the center bokeh is 7.7 statute miles away according to google earth (and my chart plotter!)
Both are cropped.
This combo of body and lens is truly wonderful.

BTW: I caught my limit of 5 cod and they would not fit into my 50 quart cooler with the cover on!

Humpback tail on Conception Bay, Newfoundland. Cropped to 4225x2817. Full res jpg link is being used here and can be clicked on depending on browser.

Contrast is hard to manage here and I am still working on it, but sky and water were gray and whale is B&W...

Something rather heroic aout this tree I sailed by yesterday. 55-300 PLM @230mm. As is very usual here in Newfoundland, very dark and gray with wind and fog so did some post processing to brighten things up.
But still...rather heroic tree here!

Out for a nature walk expecting wildlife and birds so took 55-300mm lens. Found flowers. Pictures taken hand held at distance in each case. Still quite pretty in my opinion... |
