Not my experience either: mine is wide open comparable to the DA* 300 (a very little bit softer, but you can't notice that without zooming at 100%), and it is much better than DA* 300 + 1.4 converter (which I thus never use).
Like what others have said, your copy has likely a problem, and probably need at least AF adjustments (but that's hard on a zoom), or a repair.

Thanks :) !
Yeah they are hard to shoot, always moving very fast!!
Yep! I also got some females:
Didn't know that, thanks! Females and youngs are also gorgeous:
Yes, there was also an adult male (it was at O'Reilly's), but he was very shy :'( .
Ah ah, yes, I can believe that: after 3 months, I still find the accent hard to understand ^^
Well in french "pas de" (we don't pronounce the "s") means "no", and melon is the same word. So to us, "pademelon" means "no melon", which is even more strange :D
You would not regret it :)

Yeah seems to be a lack of serious studies about these species! Still, they are all huge compared to the europeans bats I'm used to, and very interesting to see :)

Well if I'm not mistaken they are the largest in the world ^^
EDIT: after a quick search, the largest seems to be the golden-crowned flying fox (Acerodon jubatus)

I shot the flying foxes in Redcliffe's botanic garden. Hundreds of them, I'll probably go there again to try some in flight pictures :) . Hundreds of mosquitos too, though...

I'm in Australia for a few months, here are some first shots with the K-1 & 150-450. IQ from this combo is awesome, but I'm more reserved about the AF. I have the impression that it was better with the K3 (basically no missed focus in easy situation like these pictures with the K3, not the same with the K-1. I may have to get used to my new camera, or to calibrate it). |

+1! The 600 would also probably be too expensive and / or too heavy for me too, but it would add prestige to the brand! And if they make a 600 f/4, they will probably also make the 500 too (cheaper & lighter). They could also choose to do a 600 f/5.6, but I hope they won't (too close too the 560 imho). And for the price argument, think about the success of the $7000 645z, with its expensive glasses. Some guys have that money.

OK, I though you were speaking in near future. I agree, it seems logical to see some fast tele-primes at some point in the future, but I suspect that we'll have to be patient. Seems that 2017 will be the year of ultra-wide to medium tele light primes, maybe after...

If you are talking about the "Large aperture medium telephoto single focus lens" on the roadmap, don't hope to much, it is clearly said "medium telephoto", not "super tele" :/ . Seems closer to a 85mm than a 400 2.8 ^^.
Or maybe you were referencing something else?

Well, I would have thought the opposite (an improvement in quality control over the years), but maybe you are right! It would be interesting to compare several ones, but that's not easy to do...

Thanks!
I don't know for the F*, but I find the results of my 150-450 really close to those of my DA*300, sharpness wise, if the zoom is a little bit stopped down (6.3 - 7.1). I would not be able to say which lens took which picture, if the little CAs produced by the 150-450 are removed in post processing. I have less keepers at 450 (did not try enough at 300), but I think that it is due to the really small depth of field.
