True though using the bellows tripod mount instead of the camera's it is a little easier. It just seems strange with the camera hanging off the back of the whole apparatus.

Thanks LensScribe, it's at the Medical Sciences building on the University of Toronto campus. Was built in the 70's and all the building accents have a genetics theme. I'll post another of the main exterior once I'm happy with it.

Really great use of extension tubes on that strawberry, I find it so satisfying when shots like that turn out, especially at greater than a 1:1 magnification ratio. I'm guessing it was a pretty long exposure, couple seconds?

Glad to see the thread is still alive, I've been back out using my Takumars lately. Current favourite is my SMC 55mm f1.8. Great lens all things considered.

Here's one from the past weekend with it on the K20

And yeah, everyone should have a 105mm f2.8 Takumar in their bag ;)

That is fun bokeh on the 32 f2.3 heliphoto, I'm a big fan of my f2 version, but would love to try the 2.3.

Here's one from today with the 35mm f2, haven't been out in the last 2 weeks but finally had an afternoon out.

Mr. Cash strikes with his 85mm f1.9 again. I've been so stuck/struck in 35mm f2 land I nearly forgot I have a copy of that 85mm lens. Going to have to make a point of using it and learning how to see at 85mm or even 105mm again. That said, here's another from the 35mm.

@Argenticien, thanks for the comment a page back, I thought they seemed to have a bit of personality too ;)

I got so used to my 35mm f2 a while back that I forced myself to try something else, this is with the 55mm f1.8, my only SMC. Excuse the vertical shot ;)

What's the link? I'll be happy to check out your post. The 135mm f3.5 is a great performer considering how cheap they are. Nice as a small(ish) walkabout telephoto.

I haven't posted in over 2 weeks since I went to the DA* dark side and got a 16-50mm, but I've got my 55mm and 35mm Takumars at the ready for an outing today. Taken with the 55mm f1.8 at f2 or 2.8:

Great stuff edl, you and I share a penchant for railway tracks it seems (but then who doesn't? open space, strong lines and such). Here are 2 from a couple weeks ago, too bad about the contrail in the second one, it's a point of interest, but the direction of it is too distracting I think.

edit: both with 35mm f2 Super Takumar

We need a bump, and I need to get through more of my backlog of photos, so here are 2 more from my 35mm f2 Super Takumar. The boot was in the same place yesterday as it was 2 weeks ago when I first found it, I expect it'll remain there indefinitely.

With all the talk about the DA* 55mm f1.4 lately, I thought I'd join the fray with my SMC 55mm f1.8 Takumar. The first is a garage I've been meaning to photograph for a while but always found something in the way. The second was something's meal (I tried to hide the large wound where in fact its heart is missing).

A damning criticism! I like. I was pretty averse to live preview as well, but here's an example of where I used it to achieve the result I was after. This was 2 inches off the ground and mostly precluded using the viewfinder (notwithstanding a new katzeye, which rocks!). Turkey tail fungus, 35mm Super Takumar at f2.

@Argenticien, I see that you're using a K20D from another thread I read around here somewhere. One tip that the kindly folk clued me into in this thread is using the live preview feature with the camera to check your focus. Also, the red focus confirmation square thing should work for you too. It takes a while to get the hang of things at f1.4, but I find that I'm better with my 50mm Takumar than my FA 50mm with auto focus.

Here's one from my 35mm, I just can't take it off the camera.

2 from my 35mm f2, I haven't seen any other building, nevermind a loading bay that is quite as yellow as the one in the 2nd photograph, perhaps Mr. Cash has seen a few though..

I've got to start using telephoto again, the recent 135mm and 300mm shots are superb. I was out last week with my 200mm for an hour and have a tremendous newfound respect for the birders amongst us. I managed to get close enough with the 200mm to get this photo of a male great spotted woodpecker.

2 from a walk the other day with my 35mm f2. I'm starting to get used to seeing things from a 35mm on APS-C perspective and find it is a very versatile focal length (haven't had the 35mm off for a few weeks now apart from an hour taking bird photos, will post those later).

First is a public washroom in a park, second a fire escape at sunset:

Thanks all! I miss getting out with my camera and posting to this thread, so here are 2 more from last weekend's outing with the 35mm. First looking SW with sun setting off to the right, second looking SE from the same spot. Both at f16.

From a week or two ago, out with the 85mm f1.9 to start with, then switched to the 35mm f2. First 2 are 85mm at f16, last 2 are 35mm at f16:

I paid about the same as Mr. Cash, you got a great deal! Here's one from my Super Takumar version when I first got out with it, hoping to spend the whole weekend using it. This will be the first time I've had any meaningful time and subject matter to photograph since it arrived in the mail a few weeks ago:

Mmm, car porn. Fun stuff!

@drewdlephone, check out camera traders in market square next time you're downtown, I picked up my mint 55mm f1.8 there this summer for $25 with ghostless filter -- the owner seemed genuinely happy that someone was asking about anything m42 related and gave me a great deal. Here's one from a few weeks ago with it:

I missed the 105mm f2.8 boat a few posts back, so here's one with my 105mm, for a bump, and to keep up my status as a club member. It is a building around sunset here in Toronto, usually it's pretty boring looking.

/me does a facepalm, great tip asahiflex, one of those times that extra feature that I completely forgot about would have been really handy. I also did a facepalm with the original shot when I saw it on my monitor, I don't think you were being critical at all cardinal43. I liked it enough to post to flickr and here though ;)

Lessons I've learned this week: live preview is there, now I have a reason to use it; close focus at f8 is still going to produce a more limited depth of field than I expect. Indeed, I've discovered lately that while f4-5.6 with Takumars is great, and makes for fun and easy handheld shots, having a tripod (or table and steady hand) lets me stop down to f8 or 11 and really get the most out of my Takumars I know that stopping down is just a fact with all lenses, I guess I'm just spoiled by having acceptably sharp images coming from a Takumar at f2.8.. Been a great week for learning, and I haven't even been outside to shoot anything!

Here's one from a few nights ago, with my Super Macro 50mm f4, 30s at f8 or 11. With the macro especially, the depth of field is even more limited than I was expecting.

Yeah that part bothers me. This was sitting on a table in front of me so it was pretty hard to focus. That and I went with f8 instead of 16 because the background was nasty otherwise. What really surprises me with this lens is that even at f8 the depth of field when focused up close is still pretty narrow, I wasn't expecting that, hence the unfortunate oof on the front bottle.

Been a while, still haven't made it out with the 35mm f2, but I did take this one photo with it at a bar last night where the staff was giving away hot sauce. 6 seconds at f8 was about the right exposure, the camera wanted 3s.

On the subject of lenses arriving in the mail, I just received a 35mm f2 Super Takumar in the mail, one of the early versions from the 60's with a 67mm filter thread. It is beastly for a 35mm lens, it weighs 400g, or 1.5 ounces short of a pound.

2 shots of it compared to my 28mm f3.5, taken with my 85mm f1.9 and 280 flash (2nd isn't that sharp, fighting to keep the cat out of the way). To say that I'm excited would be an mis-understatement. Elated is more like it, can't wait for the weekend to arrive.
