Wow, thanks for all the kind comments. :) It was late evening sunlight, just getting to the point where it was weak enough that you don't squint.
The biggest challenge was really to convince her to stand still for half a second... believe me, birds in flight are easier -- at least their movements are somewhat predictable!

Went down to the beach this evening armed with the 85mm -- forgot just how shallow the DOF is on 85mm on FF and got a lot of pictures where the focus would not be quite as I expected because I'd pick a focus point ass-uming I'd have enough DOF. Ah well, live and learn. Been so used to the generous DOF on my 24-105 (max f/4) that I damn near forgot how to use real glass.
I did get this shot though, and as I always say, if I come back from a shoot with a single keeper, it was worth it.
