I love the flowers and the jewelry. This lens really does a nice job on flowers - here's one of my recent ones:

It's not good for bug macros but it's fine for this type of photo.

Thanks for the compliment, I love the building where I took the last two pictures, I like to go there, especially with new lenses.

I had sort-of the same thing come up - a store that no longer carries Pentax on-hand still had some Pentax lenses, old stock that they hadn't sold. So while I didn't get a great deal, I did get it for the old retail price, before Pentax raised their prices (and less than what I would have paid had I bought it from B&H or one of the other on-line stores). It came with the warranty etc. and I got a chance to support my local camera store (and show them that a few of us do shoot Pentax). They've provided good service to me over the past couple of years (showing me lenses, including ones that I decided against), so I support them when I can.

The funny thing is that I had pretty much decided to go with the FA and had gone into the store one lunch time mainly because I was bored. I asked about Pentax lenses expecting them to tell me they didn't have any in stock, but instead, they pulled out the DA 35 (that I eventually bought), a DA21 Limited and a couple of other lenses that I don't remember now (I think they had another DA Limited, but not sure which). I saw the DA and pretty much decided that was the one I was going to get, when they told me the price.

I bought this lens a couple of weeks ago (after debating between the FA 31 and the DA 35, price and local availability won). My pictures aren't as spectacular as many of the ones posted here, but I've been very happy so far. It's turning out to be a very useful lens, I'm glad I bought it. Some of my first pictures:

Of course, I had to try a close-up right away. I discovered you have to be REALLY close for 1:1, don't think I'll use that much.

This isn't exactly a remarkable shot, but I thought it was informative. This is the full frame picture:

And here is a 100% crop of the picture, without any processing beyond LR default raw conversion.

It is a useful lens for more than just close-up.

And does all right at f2.8.

I wasn't originally even considering this lens, but glad that so many people here suggested it when I asked. I'm having a great time with it, and it's close focusing ability fits in well with what I like to do. I wouldn't go so far as to say it's the greatest lens ever, but it's definitely one of the most useful lenses I have. I've dug out an old Pentax holster bag that came with a DS and I've hardly ever used before. It's just big enough for the FA 77, DA 35 macro and the K7, perfect for when I want to go light.
